Sandoval, Heller cite Medicaid concerns in opposing Obamacare repeal bill

The GOP’s new health bill would mean Nevada cannot afford to maintain coverage for the 210,000 residents insured under Medicaid expansion, Gov. Brian Sandoval says.

The governor and Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., spoke against the bill during a Friday news conference in Las Vegas. Heller said he couldn’t support the bill in its current form.

. . . .

“I want to make sure that we prop up Medicaid to the degree that the federal government has given in the past and that has become an expectation for the state of Nevada,” Heller said.

. . . .

“There isn’t anything in this piece of legislation that will lower premiums,” Heller said.

Do you really think Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul are the kind who would "STFU and vote for it"?

Good question. They'd face a tough choice. STFU and vote for it, or Obamacare continues and they get blamed for the failure of the GOP's bill. (The RINOs would not get blamed.)

If you’re looking for conservatism you won’t find it in the GOP.

This is all according to script and the final act is already written.

There are 52 Republicans in the Senate. Thus, they can lose 2 votes and still pass the bill.

The bill is drafted to please the uniparty-loving moderates, which is the overwhelming majority of the caucus, so the republicans start with 52 in favor.

Cruz, Paul, Lee and Johnson were told they could object to the bill from the right to try and appease conservatives who expected republicans to keep their 7 year promise to repeal obamacare. Temporarily down to 48 votes.

So those 4 will wage kabuki theater then announce that they will vote in favor of the bill after “forcing principled compromise” from the Rinos. The Freedom Caucus performed this function in the House.

Based on this charade, Republicans expect battered wife syndrome conservatives to forgive and forget by the time the next round of fund raising letters go out.

So they’re back to 52 votes in favor.

But Heller has to object to the bill from the left because he’s vulnerable in Nevada. So he’s being permitted to parrot all the left wing talking points about not being mean to the poor and vulnerable. He will be allowed to vote against the bill and will be very vocal in his opposition to it in order to show the world how compassionate republicans are at heart.

So the final tally will be 51 votes in favor of making obamacare permanent and ending forever any hope that we will return to a market based health care system in this country. From here we eventually transition into single payer with the only uncertainty being how much money the insurance industry will collect from the government along the way.

The whole thing makes me want to puke.

This is a perfect example of the rot that is the Republican party.

There is no real party here. Just a bunch of children with no real ideas and when one pops up they moan and butch. What a bunch of pure jackasses that never grew up.

And that is the problem!

Heller needs to go just for his vote for Rubio’s amnesty bill.

“I want to make sure that we prop up Medicaid to the degree that the federal government has given in the past and that has become an expectation for the state of Nevada,” Heller said.”

“In the past” is what Obamacare vastly expanded Medicaid to not what Medicaid had traditionally been. The Obamacare Medicaid expansion at Federal funds to aid that expansion in the early years and was set to run out of that extra federal support in the later years.

Medicaid should be taken back to what it was before Obamacare and any state that wants to continue the Obamacare expansion of Medicare they could do so on the dimes from their own state taxpayers.
