Dems begin to panic as Trump set to transform federal judiciary
The American Thinker ^ | 06/23/17 | Thomas Lifson

While Democrats obsess over the Russia hacking fantasy and Robert Mueller as Trump's Javert, President Trump, the Federalist Society, and Senator Chuck Grassley are on the way to making the federal judiciary great again. The Huffington Post noticed and is worried:

Trump is unbelievably well positioned to fill up federal courts with lifetime judges. He inherited a whopping 108 court vacancies when he became president – double the number of vacancies President Barack Obama inherited when he took office.

The reason Trump gets to fill so many seats is partly because Obama was slow to fill court vacancies early in his tenure. But the main reason is Republicans' yearslong strategy of denying votes to Obama's court picks. They refused to recommend judicial nominees, filibustered others, used procedural rules to drag out the confirmation process and, by Obama's final year, blocked nominees they had recommended just to prevent him from filling more seats.

Yep: Sometimes the Stupid Party actually does its job.

Elections have consequences, and when voters handed control of the Senate to the GOP, Senator Grassley – the very opposite of a showboater – did his job as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee with skill. Now he is poised to capitalize on that control, using the Dems' "Reid Rule" that abolished the filibuster for judicial nominations, and will supplement it with another reform that will prevent Dems from obstructing appointments to the Circuit Courts of Appeals:

“Next, fire all the Obama Federal Prosecutors and appoint new ones.”

If he hasn’t done that yet, what reason is there to think he will?

I wasn’t aware that the phrase “blue slip” was written into the United States Constitution.

Remember all those videos posted on YouTube of all those SJW reactions to Trump's victory shortly after Election Day? Including at least two destroyed TV's?

Mind you, nothing beats the embarrassing meltdown of The Young Turks that was livestreamed on YouTube, though.

“Getting rid of the Blue Slip rule would be huge”

These Senate sorority rules have no basis in the constitution. If they impede us, they should be removed. They have nothing making them sacred.

ut the main reason is Republicans’ yearslong strategy of denying votes to Obama’s court picks...

Does THIS mean we have to be proud of republican congressmen this one time?

I would keep the right side but you don’t have to worry about the head as they lost it years ago!

I like the idea of cutting the judges in half at the 9th.

Should it be lengthwise or width?

The reason Trump gets to fill so many seats is partly because Obama was slow to fill court vacancies early in his tenure.

And for most of their woes, the liberal have only themselves to blame. For the first two years of his regime, 0bama had a supermajority in the Senate. It was a rubber-stamp for his nominations. He could have packed the judiciary and there was not one thing the GOP could have done to stop it.

The "blue slip" rule goes back to the very first Congress. Just because it's old doesn't mean its good. It's a Federal Judiciary, not a state court.
