GOP Sen. Collins on Health Care Bill: ‘I Cannot Support a Bill’ That Takes Insurance From Millions

Earlier today, Senate Republicans finally revealed their secret health care bill. And to say the reception was tepid would be kind. Besides the expected heavy criticism from Democrats — including former President Barack Obama — a number of GOP senators expressed their opposition.

A group of four Senate Republicans has already come out to say they are currently a “no” on the bill, effectively killing it where it stands. Now, you can add another to the list.

During an appearance on MSNBC’s MTP Daily, Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) explained that she just couldn’t support a bill that would end up leaving more Americans without health coverage.

With host Chuck Todd noting that she was already a skeptic of the House-passed bill, Collins was asked what was her line in the sand when it came to whether she could support the Senate one.

“I can’t support a bill that will greatly increase premiums for our older Americans,” she said. “I cannot support a bill that is going to result in tens of millions of people losing their health insurance.”

The Maine lawmaker added that she also couldn’t support a bill that made deep cuts to Medicaid while also stating that she does care that funding to Planned Parenthood is being impacted.

However, she did let Todd know that while she is expressing severe reservations right now, she will wait until the Congressional Budget Office releases its score of the bill next week.

When I grew up insurance was considered a Mafia scam. Now it is unconstitutionally mandated.

But then that is what our government has become, a Mafia.

Meanwhile health insurance companies are bailing. That insurance doesn’t insure healthcare if providers don’t want to accept it.

When people are forced to buy insurance they don’t want (or else pay a fine) then you’ve got a bigger problem, Senator

The same reason they all did, they knew it was just a show. Whether they pass this or not. the public knows the Pubs have the power, so they own Obamacare or the replacement now. They can be seen as trying to fix it or doing nothing.

Even if it’s fake insurance that costs thousands and gives no real coverage because of deductibles. . . .

I hate to be a defeatist, but maybe best we can hope for is a slightly improved Obamacare. I don’t know. Seems hopeless.

The only constitutional healthcare bill is the one that COMPLETELY DIVESTS FEDERAL INTERFERENCE IN HEALTHCARE and gives healthcare back to the states and the people where it constitutionally belongs.

The worlds’ best healthcare is that which is (and was) on the free market economy. The feds just muck it up.

Insurance is not a constitutional right and especially not for the country to take my money so subsidize and to pay for others bad choices in life. The unconstitutional bill is already dyeing and over priced for millions you idiot.

Do nothing, Congress. Please!

0bamaCare will die for lack of insurers.

Plus, Trump has decided not to enforce the tax penalty (live the pen, die by the pen, suckers!)

So, 0bamaCare dies under its own weight. The free market will reign, and 0bama gets the blame.

Fine.

So when the monthly insurance payment went from 280 to 700 during 2015, that was ok with you.

Whose pockets do you want picked? The average citizen who works and pays the bills? Or yours?
