to be out of Europe when you woke up! :)
They got that one wrong. I was a string player in an orchestra in Vienna. Like an idiot, I volunteered to fight for my emperor in what became World War I. There is a birthmark on my forehead to mark where the bullet went in.
Bang!
And then I woke up in Philadelphia after World War II.

What was I in a past life?
I was a tower operator on an artificial moon that was purposed for storing spacecraft inside. Computers did most of the work, but I did have to assign and punch in the storage bay coordinates, and do the initial tractor beam lock on.
It was a very boring and lonely job.
