Otto Warmbier, a 22-year-old American student imprisoned by North Korea for over a year for attempting to steal a propaganda poster, has died after coming home to Ohio last week. He showed signs of severe brain damage though North Korean officials claimed he had contracted botulism during his imprisonment. His original sentence was 15 years of hard labor but he was released early due to his health. From the Cincinnati Enquirer:

Otto Warmbier died because he went to NK. Hard to believe nobody counseled or talked him out of it.
i wonder if they would have given him the poster if he had simply asked for it. do stupid things in totalarian lands and bad things happen. poor kid

A valid point but bottom line is he had absolutely no business being in North Korea in the first place.
Like my father said when I was 10....”If you put yourself in a potentially dangerous situation and you get into trouble, it’s YOUR own fault”.
Not only did he go to NK, he was foolish enough to think that he would get away with defacing state property.
I feel bad for the family and the Norks are evil people, but let’s not go to war over this particular incident. I’d rather Nuke em just for $hits & giggles. You have to be nuts to go to North Korea for a tour. The only way I would go there is with the U.S Military by my side and a couple of nuclear hand grenades.

Why in all the words in the world would anyone especially an American go to North Korea? I am sadden by his death at the hands of these evil people but why go in the first place.
