Senate Democrats Try to Gum Up Works Over Affordable Care Act Repeal

Democrats vowed on Monday to slow work in the Senate to a crawl to protest the secrecy surrounding the Republican effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, as Republican leaders raced to prepare a bill for a vote as soon as next week.

Without the votes to stop the majority party from passing a bill, Democrats can only draw attention to the way Republicans are creating their bill — behind closed doors without a single hearing or public bill-drafting session.

Senate Republican leaders hope for a showdown vote before lawmakers leave town at the end of next week, an ambitious timeline that would spare Republicans from constituent pressure over the Fourth of July recess.

Democrats fear that Republicans will unveil a bill that would have sweeping effects on health care, then within days try to pass it with only limited debate.

But, it is being done in the spirit of cooperation just like when the obamacare act was formulated. That any of the republicrats could show any support after san fran nans proclamation that you could see what's in it after you sign it? Well, we know how that worked out. Keep shoveling chucky.

Evil thought. This can all be taken off the front pages by one Russian related tweet from the President. The MSM can’t resist going Wall to Wall with that one.

Sounds sort of like the Pubbies are using some of Pelosi’s techniques when she was pushing it through the House.

IIRC, Pelosi had closed-door meetings and Pubbies were locked OUT.

IIRC, Pelosi wanted to pass it to find out what all was in it.

IIRC, Pelosi wanted to ‘deem it passed’ so they wouldn’t have to actually commit to voting on it.

Pubbie leadership should tell Dem leadership — We won; sit down and shut up.

when are Republicans going to stand up and push back on this? Ask the reporters where they were when obamacare was rammed down our throats. They should be on the offensive.....

if you go to the msn site for the story, the comments section is littered with libs claiming up and down the debate on obamacare was done in open hearings and pubbies were invited, and it was all above board....they of course dont site any links to verify this, but that is their whole reply to anyone on the opposite side.

Obamacare was pushed down out throats in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve during Barack Ebola’s reign without a single GOP vote.

What goes around comes around. Cry me a river, dems.

They did in secrecy, so what goes around comes around.

Saw an AARP ad yesterday saying the Republican bill forces seniors to pay thousands more for insurance and pre-existing conditions. It urged people to call our useless senator Joni Ernst and oppose the bill.

Of course, most AARP members have insurance through Medicare anyway, but that doesn’t matter to these socialist jerks. AARP has always been another front group for the Democrats.

Worried? About?

They have their ‘18 topic.

When/if this passes, the (D) are no longer responsible for the unconstitutional federalization of 1/6 of the economy and the continued fiasco that is GOVT.

The ‘leadership’ is playing just like the (D), under wraps and quiet, so they too can shove the S* pill down the throats of the unwilling.

Sad more aren’t as pissed about the secrecy. They can’t defend it in the light of day, it shouldn’t SEE the light of day either.

I mean, what could go wrong w/ secret govt? Just look how well FISA works *spit*

Repeal? Why the secrecy for a ‘repeal’? How many pages does a ‘repeal’ take?

Sorry, this is another s*-burger w/ the (R) label instead.

Like much after 9/11, it’s (R) Fascism, so it’s all dandy. Most only complained when the (D) used ‘em (as they were expected). No matter they have no authority to exist in the first...

Let’s face the facts. The so-called Republicans are marking time until they can rid them selves of Trump. I actually think more of the despicables then I do of the the Republicans. I know what they are up to but the (R)’s have become back stabbing snakes that cannot be trusted.

>>when are Republicans going to stand up and push back on this?<<

No need. For starters, I think people are going to find out they already read most of the bill, because it’s going to be very similar to the House bill that everyone interested has already downloaded and gone over.

So the best pushback is just to tweak the House bill, pass it, and get on with tax policy.

That’s essentially what’s happened. The Senate announced immediately after the House passed their bill that they were going to “start over from scratch.” Meanwhile, I suspect they’ve just been tweaking the House bill to get to 50 votes, but not so much that they lose House votes.

And it’s worked. Very little reporting has been done until recently and all of a sudden McConnell is saying they’ll take a vote soon. And as long as it’s close to the House bill, no one will later be able to claim that they weren’t able to read it until it was passed.
