A cargo vessel almost 20 times as large as this maneuverable military ship can sneak up on it..???

how could we expect such a ship or 30 others like it to detect missiles fired at it by a determined belligerent, using the sharpest stealth possible..??

this will be one of the precious few cases in which I hear about Navy careers destroyed and I feel absolutely no sympathy.

So, you must have the entire back-story about how this happened. Care to share it with us?

The commanders of ships in less serious incidents have had their careers terminated. Those happen yearly.

Have you ever been on a ship approaching a busy harbor at night? No? ok, then don’t speak on things you don’t comprehend. In that area of the ocean, there are literally hundreds of ships, boats, and other watercraft. In such a busy shipping lane, the US Warship as are the merchants are bound by the International rules of the road. Someone violated them. The sad thing is, even it was the merchant - the Captain of the Fitzerald will still be held accountable.
