Security had to take him out. How could they know there weren’t more shooters somewhere? They had to be ready for what could come next.
The doctor did say that when he was brought in, imminent death was very possible.

My next big worry would be infection.
The sad thing is, the bullet hit the hip and went through the body headed for the other hip.
This means there was trauma clear across the body at that level in that region.
Bowel region, intestines, veins, arteries, spinal structure, nerves, musculature...
There’s a multitude of problems that could occur. If bowel or intestine tract are hit, that stuff leaks out into the lower abdomen cavity. This is the big infection bug-a-boo.
If this guy returns to near normal status, it will have indeed been a major miracle.
It will take years. Even if he returns to work, he won’t be returned to normal health yet even then.
Then there are psychological issues, dealing with the shock of the attack and the near loss of everything.
This could haunt him for quite some time.
All the best to Scalise and the others harmed in this vile attack, so resoundingly applauded by the left.

Yeah, the Dr. tried very hard to not sound optimistic, being a pessimist by nature, but he did allow that Scalise might make a near full recovery.
Even if he doesn’t, I had a uncle who lost the use of his legs due to a ruptured descending aorta. He was very greatful to be alive.

I have the greatest respect for first responders and trauma teams at Level I facilities. They are simply the best! God has guided the hands of these fine physicians, nurses, technicians without a doubt! Prayers for all involved continue . . .

That is exactly what Dr Sava said. Also said length of time in hospital raises risk of infection for all patients, and he expects Scalise will be in hospital for several more weeks.
It was so much worse than originally thought. May God continue to heal this man and restore him to his family and the service of his nation.
