F-5s were a good third-world fighter...relatively cheap and easy to work on (relatively speaking). Pretty dependable.
When I was in the USAF 40+ years ago, the Air Force used the F-5’s as aggressors to simulate MIGs in dogfights with the new F-15s. They made the ground crew paint big yellow stripes on the F-5s because they were so difficult for the F-15 pilots to see - like looking at the end of a pin. Too bad the Russians weren’t as accommodating.

Bien Hoa Air Base was overrun by Communist forces on Apr. 25, 1975 as the Vietnam War (referred to as the American War in Vietnam) neared its end.I am glad I left Bien Hoa, before that happened. 😀🙃
