A massive residential fire in Ladbroke Grove suburb of London England has many people worried about trapped residents. According to most media reports the 24 floor building, Greenfell Tower, houses 120 units and is almost completely engulfed.
The fire began in the middle of the night. There are over 40 fire squads and 200 firefighters attempting to control the blaze.
(The Sun) [ ] FIREFIGHTERS are battling an inferno which has engulfed a block of flats in Ladbroke Grove, West London.
Some residents are trapped inside the 24-storey tower, with children among residents desperately shouting for help from windows on upper floors with neighbouring flats ablaze.
One witness told BBC radio that there were likely to be tens if not hundreds of casualties, with some jumping from windows for safety in scenes reminiscent of 9/11.

A building on fire, but it didn’t collapse? Weird.
They are usually rising stem valves that are easy to tell if they are open and they should have locks on them to ensure they stay open.
Dont trust your life to anothers abilities entirely. Just makes sense.
I very much concur. The problem is that the room in question also contains a fire pump, and should be behind a locked door.
I’ve been involved in a few high rise building projects in NYC & LA. Our fire safety standards are extremely bullet proof. Its a old saw in the industry that most people first hear about a fire in their building watching the nightly news.
This type of fire would be nearly impossible in a US high rise.
You must live in a tall building.
Most apartment buildings aren’t tall enough to need a pump.
Does it have a tank on the roof?
It might have been an apartment full of muslims.
I don’t, but I used to be in the consulting engineering business designing commercial building systems, and have sized and specified a few fire pumps, laid out the standpipe system, etc. A building like this London one would need a fire pump to get water to the upper floors for the sprinklers and hose valves on the standpipes.
While NYC has tanks on the roof, that’s not very common most places. You’re depending on that fire pump, and in a big fire (which shouldn’t happen in a fully-sprinklered building), the pump in a pumper truck as a supplement.
Perhaps the code inspectors did not get to inspect the building for a long while, because non-Muslims were not welcome.
In Notting Hill?
I lived very near this place in 1975-76, working at the then Charing Cross Hospital.
1970s construction of what amounts to a housing project may not have been of the highest quality, and the residents (writing like people on the dole) recently complained: "It has been very clear for some time to the residents of Grenfell Tower that those responsible for ensuring the smooth running of Lancaster West Estate are failing in their duty of care and wilfully allowing our residential amenity to decline in unacceptable ways."
So, mix not up to code, halls filled with trash, no culture of self-care (others are "responsible for smooth running"), and a spark, and you have a disaster.
And, to double down, IF there are a lot of deaths, particularly of children (which unfortunately appears quite likely at this hour), given the racialization of class politics in the UK, especially in inner outer London, then, somehow, this will turn out to be not caused by massive immigration of people not fit to live in high-rise apartments in a Western city, but rather by YT somehow, showing the need for more Somalis in government.
Watch the story evolve. I bet I'm right.
No reason to be alarmed
It also did not have 15-20,000 gallons of jet fuel dispersed into a gaping hole in its side where the 767 plowed into it either. Weird.
Close, but it's more likely that the owner is not a Muslim but the local government, and that this building is a Council Estate (a housing project), originally built for poor English people but of late a warehouse for Muslims. I have heard the word "Somalis" a lot in connection with this event, if that's so, the building was likely nearly all Somali, as they do not appreciate the benefits of diversity in their surroundings.
If the codes were not enforced, it would be because to do so would entail evil YT being culturally insensitive to oppressed POCs, whose garbage in the halls made them feel as if the were back in Mogadishu.
Whatever happened, it's going to turn out to be YTs fault.
Somebody told me that the site of the building is one of the proposed sites for a large mosque.
A building full of muzzies and a refrigerator blows? Yeah right.
The DailyMail has pictures that show only third-worlders - the type that move to the UK and then roast a Ramadan goat over an open fire in their appartment...(though the current storyline seems to be an exploded refrigerator).
Nor the XX tons of jet aircraft parts and x thousand lbs of passenger bodies inside the building....Weird
Building codes? Easily ignored/violated. Words on paper...35 dead in that Oakland hippie commune fire...
