A massive residential fire in Ladbroke Grove suburb of London England has many people worried about trapped residents.   According to most media reports the 24 floor building, Greenfell Tower, houses 120 units and is almost completely engulfed.

The fire began in the middle of the night.  There are over 40 fire squads and 200 firefighters attempting to control the blaze.

(The Sun) […]  FIREFIGHTERS are battling an inferno which has engulfed a block of flats in Ladbroke Grove, West London.

Some residents are trapped inside the 24-storey tower, with children among residents desperately shouting for help from windows on upper floors with neighbouring flats ablaze.

One witness told BBC radio that there were likely to be “tens if not hundreds” of casualties, with some jumping from windows for safety in scenes “reminiscent of 9/11”.

I cannot imagine how this could have spread so fast without “help.”

I highly doubt that a similar building in the US could have burned like that due to building codes.

I’m not going to say this was set by Muslims but I’m thinking it.

The fire spread fast, but if arson/terrorism, how would one spread an accelerant through such a large building?

Unless there were a lot of plastics and if that is the case, there are going to be a lot of people dead.

This is very very sad. I have seen it called a Somali neighborhood. Prayers up to all who were hurt or worse. I do not see this as terrorism but I do understand how some might think this. Could be more Muslims lived there than not.

You beat me to it. I was thinking the same thing, as I'm sure, a lot of here are having the same thoughts.

From what I can glean, the building was a fire trap and had been refurbished recently. Although there seemed to be a lot of Moose limbs living in the building. But they’re all over the place there. Who knows, but with what has been going on there with the attacks it seems fishy.

I’m thinking a lot of muslims lived there. I read where a reporter talked to a woman who escaped but couldn’t find her brother. Muslim-sounding names and hijab.

I’m sure the mayor will say fires are just something they have to get used to.

How old is the building? Older buildings would probably go up fairly quickly. However, it wouldn’t take much for a few people to walk around the first couple of floors and spread something flammable across the carpets either.

If you were to go to a Somali apartment builing, in Somali, they tend to just throw out their garbage into hallways and not do anything to clean it.

Odds are, if it is a Somali building, they probably also do that as a matter of habit.

No idea the age of the building.

From what I can glean, the building was a fire trap and had been refurbished recently.

In the US a multi-unit dwelling like this would have to have fire suppression and warning systems in order to get an occupancy permit.

I can not see a fire like this in a building with a working fire suppression system. At the very least most of the people would have had time to get out.

Maybe Britain has grandfather clauses for older buildings.

In the US if you want Section 8 tenements you have to have all of the safety features. They don’t have to be the best but they have to work.

One of the funny things that can happen when maintenance is done is that occasionally thing don’t get turned back on.

If the fire suppression system was worked on it perhaps the water wasn’t turned back on.

I have read several reports where this has happened. Most of the time it is discovered months later when they system is tested. Not after a fire.

6-7 years ago our code enforcement guys found the water turned off on the sprinkler system on a quite large 5-story stickbuilt apartment. Not anywhere near as big as the hi-rise here, but plenty of potential for disaster.

This is what I am waiting to hear. If so, this would be the exact same thing as the fire in Oakland that was in that old warehouse that repeatedly had code violations which were not enforced. It burned down and killed a bunch of artists. The reasons why the codes were not enforced is because the tenants and landlord were progressives, and so political correctness kept getting in the way of enforcing safety upon poor progressive artists. The result was a bunch of dead artists.

Here we may have a situation where a muslim building owner was allowed to have a death trap rather than enforce building codes, because he and the tenants were muslim.
