Watch live: A huge fire has engulfed a 24-story apartment block in West London.
Massive Fire all up and down and across the thing. No way the fire could engulf like this without help.
In the USA, all the hype over "energy conservation" and "global warming" has prompted widespread use of spray-on foam building insulation because of its high R-value.
Unfortunately the stuff is nicknamed "solid gasoline" because it burns with intense fury. I can't imagine living in a house that had been sprayed head to toe with that stuff.
Does the fire department just let it burn now since it is fully engulfed?
The entire exterior is completely black.
Amazing how fast. When I first started watching live feed, it was still a beige building with visible glass windows, curtains, etc.
Sad beyond words.

I doubt they have a choice. I don’t see anyway that can be put out before it burns itself out. By reports they are still rescuing residents, but I don’t see how that’s possible.
There are likely chases up the height of a high building. There are reasons why building codes require fire stops, fire dampers in ventilation ducts, sprinkler systems, smoke detectors, fire doors at critical junctures and more. I don’t know the age of this building, but in the US, if it were “newer”, it’d likely have numerous safety systems built in.

I dont see fire hoses spraying the building - do they have water pressure? How many floors?
Skye News reporter just said many residents in building/area were awake due to their ending of daily Ramadan fast.
Unreal to even hear that as common comment.
I would assume that is because of the memories of the great London fire of a couple centuries ago and the lessons from the Blitz in WW2.

I almost posted the same, though the thought posited by some that outside of the U.S. they aren’t particular about what they put on the outside of their buildings gave me some pause. Still, upon reflection, I can’t see it being neglected long enough to spread downward 26 floors. I’ve personally been inside (very briefly) a Church after the roof caught fire, and fire will eventually work its way down, but generally heat rises—there is a reason why you can build a fire on top of ice.
Those top 9 floors or so are gone.

This means there is a high presence of Islamic people in the building.
In all honesty, someone could have gone to sleep smoking.

They are talking about risk of building collapse. We know that is nonsense, fire cannot collapse a building.
