Religious tests for holding public office are banned in the U.S. Constitution and go against the very core of the American tradition.
But you wouldnt have learned that listening to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday, as he questioned Russ Vought, the deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget nominee.
His questioning of Vought was nothing less than theological interrogation, and in the end, excoriation.
Heres what unfolded when Sanders took the mic.

Maybe Bernie should explain why his religion should be excluded too. Sounds like Haman all over again.
Sanders: I would simply say, Mr. Chairman, that this nominee is really not someone who this country is supposed to be about.
In making the above EXCLUSION Mr. Sanders you contradict yourself to a degree that cast doubt upon your intelligence or your Patriotism and your decency.
I am beginning to wonder about these people in our Government...piglosi, Di-Fi, Sanders, Waters, I know I’m leaving out a lot of people, but they are all showing signs of ‘being to old’ to do their jobs...
Yes there is a law against that, BUT we have to elect some new blood and some SANE people to get America back on track...just saying...
Sounds like Bernie is definitely of the opinion: “Christians not wanted here.”
I read the entire article and encourage others to do so, it is very well written.
*mad*
Thanks for the ping. I read the entire article. Bernie outed himself as an anti-christian bigot. What he did is unconstitutional.
Sanders is applying an unconstitutional religious test for public office.
The questions should not have been answered. An outright refusal should have been the response as in “Honored Sir, I fail to see the pertinence of that question to the subject at hand and I respectfully ask you to withdraw it as it is a clear violation of this country’s ban on a religious test for those who hold office.” My private religious beliefs are not up for discussion in this forum. Please continue with another line of questioning.”
Their idea of coexistence with us is exactly like Islam’s coexistence with us: Let us run things, and maybe we won’t kill you.
Yes Senator, they are condemned.
Yes, Senator, Jews are also condemned.
Senator, you misunderstand, I am not condemning anyone. Almighty God is. He says so in His book, the bible, you may have heard of it.
I simply fail to understand why in the world conservatives continue to try to reason with these very unreasonable people. It’s fruitless and hopeless. They should respond back with a question along the lines of ‘tell me how that question is relevant?’ Or, help me understand how that question is not unconstitutional?’ and then just shut up and wait for an answer. We are not dealing with normal people!
You and I are on the exact same page. See my post 16. (If I had read the entire thread first I probably wouldn’t have commented because I like your response a lot!)
Herbert Marcuse.
Tolerance is the virtue of believing in nothing.
This little totalitarian dirt bag needs to be ended.
