DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG TV-9) -- Parents in Iowa can sue for wrongful birth. That first of its kind ruling from the Iowa Supreme Court is stirring up emotions in the abortion debate.
Parents in Lee County filed a lawsuit against a Fort Madison hospital and with a gynecologist clinic. They say doctors failed to warn them about abnormalities on their child's ultrasound. Those abnormalities that might have prompted the parents to get an abortion.
The case centers on a now 6 year old boy who was born with cerebral palsy and other disabilities that make it unlikely he'll ever walk or talk. Proponents of the ruling say the wrongful birth amounts to medical malpractice. But critics say the ruling finds that some kids are better off dead.
Attorney Art Gilloon, is member of Dubuque County Right to Life board of directors. He's shocked and saddened by the Iowa Supreme Court ruling. In a 6 to 1 vote last week, the Supreme Court ruled with the parents saying can sue medical providers.

It is Iowa where Democrats went on television and prayed to their pagan gods for more abortion.
of course, there’s nothing remotely liberal about Liberal’s intentions nor democratic about Democratic party ideology.
IOW, abortions are now required. Welcome to Red China.
Abortions in the United States only happen when the mothers of the babies want them to happen.
Not if this judge has anything to say about it.

How does one surmise cerebral palsy from an ultrasound?
Likely he can see, hear and will be able to read.
I didn’t see anything in the article indicating that he likely will be able to read. That would be nice, if it happens. However,a child unable to walk or talk will be bed bound or wheel chair bound if lucky, will be wearing a diaper, will have to be carried everywhere, and probably will not be feeding himself or reading. Severe handicaps affect multiple abilities. It’s good for parents and caregivers to be positive and hope some skills do develop.
Since it’s a lawsuit, it’s not likely the parents will admit to anything other than s hopeless disaster. My BS sense went off when “ultrasound” and “cerebral palsy” were used as the “damages”— maybe times and ultrasounds have changed, but cerebral palsy commonly occurs during labor and delivery. I think every OB should just stop delivering babies.
