I am a “former” counterterrorism intelligence officer and we used to refer to Al-Azhar as “Terrorism U”. Virtually every significant (but not necessarily publicly-known) Islamic terrorist leader attended Al-Azhar at one time or another.

Yep, Al Azhar University is also associated with the Al-Azhar Mosque, which is considered THE CENTER of Sunni Islamic knowledge.
The Islamic Scholars and teachers of the Mosque were the inspiration for the Muslim Brotherhood.
