WASHINGTON – Two leading Democratic lawmakers from New York criticized US President Donald Trump this week for deferring on his campaign promise to relocate the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, questioning silence from their colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

Chuck Schumer, the highest-ranking Democrat in the Senate, and Eliot Engel, ranking member of the House Foreign Relations Committee, both issued condemnatory statements after the White House temporarily waived a congressional requirement compelling the embassy move.

I must be getting old and senile because I simply cannot recall Upchuck chastising Obama every 6 months over the past 8 years that the move was delayed.

Though a legitimate criticism of a broken promise, it should be noted that neither Obama nor Clinton who signed the bill, has ever suggested moving the Embassy. Presumably out of support for an all palestinian Jerusalem. I can't think of any other reason not to move the Embassy to land that's been a part of Israel since 1948. Yes, I know there are loons in State and elsewhere who think Jerusalem will become an international city, run presumably by the UN. The Arabs will go for that. Delusional.

“deferring”

Methinks this word is important.

Sooner, the better.

Chuck Schumer, the highest-ranking Democrat in the Senate, and Eliot Engel, ranking member of the House Foreign Relations Committee, both issued condemnatory statements after the White House temporarily waived a congressional requirement compelling the embassy move.

This story is just Chuckie (and, in this case, his sidekick Engel) trying to recoup some of the 'Rats losses in the pro-Israel community which were incurred as a result of Trump's successful trip. Apparently Schumer became somewhat miffed at having to play second fiddle to Trump in terms of media attention, and so called up some buddy at the left-leaning Jerusalem Post who was more than happy to give him a story to retaliate against Trump.

It should be noted that the vast majority of Israelis had no trouble with the waiver of the embassy move.

Then too, as mentioned by other posters here, Chuckie Schumer never criticized Obama or Clinton for their waivers of the embassy move. And it seems highly improbable that he will condemn fellow Democrats in Congress for participating in blatantly anti-Israel activities.

As for Engel, his main claim to fame was leading a celebration on the Capitol lawn directly following the House votes to impeach Bill Clinton. (Yes, the Democrats in the House actually threw a party (no pun intended) on the lawn outside the Capitol building to celebrate their president's impeachment.)

If he went ahead with it, Chucky and Eliot would decry it as bull-in-china-shop diplomacy, and wring their hands over how the piece process will soon lie in ruins as the palis riot in the streets because of Trump’s cowboy antics. If Trump does it, baaad. If he doesn’t do it, baaad.
