People always accuse the South of continuing to fight the Civil War, because they are sore losers. In fact it has ALWAYS been the North who is continuing to refight the Civil War, because they are sore winners.

Bet that Few if any, calling for it's removal know this thought of Gen Lee.

There are few, I believe, in this enlightened age, who will not acknowledge that slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil. It is idle to expatiate on its disadvantages. I think it is a greater evil to the white than to the colored race.

Is it not strange that the descendants of those Pilgrim Fathers who crossed the Atlantic to preserve their own freedom have always proved the most intolerant of the spiritual liberty of others?

The irony of this taking place in The Big Easy is that there were more far more black slave OWNERS in Nawlins than in any other city in America. There even were all-black units (1st Louisiana Native Guard, among others) raised to serve in the Confederate army during the War for Southern Independence.
