Two people were fatally stabbed after trying to intervene when a man was spewing "hate speech" on a Portland, Oregon train on Friday, police said.
The suspect, who was not immediately identified, was captured south of the Hollywood transit center shortly after the 4:30 p.m. stabbing on a MAX light rail train, Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson said.

Bingo! That’s the key question right there. Did those who were stabbed grab the man, and try to throw him to the floor? Or did they merely say, “Hey, pal. Knock it off, will ya?”
It goes to the state of journalism today that the article gives no clue about that.
As an aside, at this early point I’m betting this was not self-defense. In my experience with ranters, it’s the ranter who initiates any physical violence.
It jumps right out. From my perspective the story reeks like a week old homicide scene.
Nope...concealed carry is legal in Oregon, I know many people with CCW’s.
21 feet is the legal space to shoot a suspect with a knife.....
Not based on this article, as it stated as the suspect was talking, "Others intervened".
I've had a bit of experience too. Go into places like LA and ya see people ranting in public all the time. Some scream at their hands, some argue with telephone poles on street corners while other yap on their phones about how they want to kill Trump and his supporters.
Only a idiot or fool would attempt to "Intervene" with these people in public venue simply because they don't like what they're saying. In LA one could spend the rest of their days doing nothing but that.

Liberal policies have turned Portlandia into a haven for homeless/addicts/mentally ill persons. The burgeoning numbers of persons with an inability to live in a polite society has made the city dangerous.
The media avoids talking about this problem, which is why they are trying to recast this an Islamaphobic hate crime by an implied Trump supporter when the perp is probably just another sad, sick, self-medicating schizophrenic in a state that has turned its state hospitals into prisons and gutted mental health services for the truly desperate and problematic in favor of self esteem pablum for the neurotic.
That is the same recommendation that we received. You have got love the media though... every time some psycho with a knife or even a sword charges the police they act like the police shot an unarmed man even though they know that it has to be ruled "justified" in the end.
Amen to that. My wife and I used to like to take Amtrak to downtown Portland, then ride their “free” light rail all around downtown. But we stopped doing it after problems with psychos who hang out on the light rail all day because it is free, warmer than occupying a park bench, and gives much better opportunities to shake down people for handouts. A travel tip: If you ride the “free” light rail in Portland, it is best to bring some $1 bills along to placate the “residents”. We have a small airplane and often ride busses from the airports we land at. This seems to be an endemic problem with all "inexpensive" forms of mass transit. The government spends billions of dollars on them but decent tax paying folks are chased off by the psychos and unfriendly minorities. When I was a kid you would see women dragging several children on the bus with them, but a buss or light rail is generally no place for children these days.
In Portland, waiting to get stabbed before you kill the perp is probably the difference between a 2nd Degree charge and Manslaughter.
The “cultural appropriation” meme is a method to force everyone to keep to his station in life and stay in his own designated group the better to be hemmed in and controlled by the Left.
“Spewing hate,” can mean that he said something about the hijab being silly. “Spewing hate” is almost officially defined as “speaking” any words and in any tone at all when done by an identified non-leftist.

Do you have to be an Oregon resident to get a concealed carry permit?
Yes. Unlike most states Oregon doesn’t recognize other state’s CCW’s.
