Gary Cohn Relaunches War on Coal: Fuel from America’s Heartland ‘Doesn’t Make Much Sense Anymore’
Breitbart ^ | 5/26/2017

Posted on 05/27/2017 2:23:31 AM PDT by Altura Ct.

White House National Economic Council director Gary Cohn, a former Goldman Sachs banking executive, has reopened the U.S. government’s war on coal in direct contravention of directions from President Donald Trump.

“Coal doesn’t even make that much sense anymore as a feedstock,” Cohn said in Europe on Air Force One, while speaking for the White House to the press, the New York Times’ Brad Plumer noted.

“Natural gas, which we have become an abundant producer, which we’re going to become a major exporter is, is such a cleaner fuel,” Cohn continued.

Cohn’s comments against the coal industry come as he has attempted to steer President Trump in a direction against his campaign promise to remove the United States from the Paris Climate Accords, a deal that Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has told Breitbart News would cost at least six million American jobs. Paul and 21 of his GOP U.S. Senate colleagues have written to President Trump urging him to follow through on his pledge to remove the U.S. from the job-killing deal and stand up for the coal industry in the United States.

Trump repeatedly campaigned on defending coal workers—people previous presidents and his Democratic opponent former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton worked to undermine. Former President Barack Obama’s administration—was brutal to the coal  industry—something Clinton campaigned on continuing.

As the Trump administration has made great strides in rolling back job-killing regulations on the coal industry, moving the government out of the way, President Trump announced to the American people back at the end of March that “the war on coal is over.”

But it seems the war on coal is being relaunched by his economic adviser Cohn, who now calls coal obsolete and unclean.

Should we get on with Nook-you-leer power, coal could be reduced [sic] to metallurgical functions.

If that’s how you feel, Cohn, you’re free to resign.

It’s a shame that many of his appointments are coming out of the closet after the fact. He is not getting good advice. All the more reason to check with God first on EVERYTHING!!!!!

If coal doesn’t make sense it’ll die a natural death. So what’s this genius worried about?

I cannot understand what this liberal Democrat is doing in the White House and why he is given a role in policy. There is an old phrase from the South: “You dance with the one that brung ya”. Trump received upwards of 90 percent of the vote in Coal Country; it helped him carry Ohio, KY, and TN. He received NO votes from the Manhattan leftist dilettantes like Gary Cohn - his share of the vote in Manhattan was all of 10 percent.

He needs to shut the hell up. He’s an economic advisor....stress advisor. He is one of many. His opinion may be interesting but it is not policy

If the media report is accurate, fire him and make sure that he gets the message that disloyalty will be punished severely.

Anyone who publicly stabs you in the back by directly contradicting your stated policy has been quietly stabbing you in the back without your knowing where it was coming from for a good while already.

He's got to go, the sooner the better.

Isn't something like 40% of the nation's power generated by coal? Of course nuke plants could be a viable alternative.

this shows his ignorance.

US Coal is being phased out, but China still gets a lot of their electricity from coal burning plants.

However, local coal is high sulfur, and is expensive to transport across the country due to lack of decent roads etc.

So it is actually cost effective for the to buy coal from Ausralia and the US, especially since this imported coal is lower in sulfur than the local coal.

Cohn was out of the closet when he picked him, though. Cohn is a Democrat who donated to and voted for Hillary Clinton.

Another Grima Wormtongue with an almost comically stereotypical bio. Want to lose forever the people who actually voted for you Mr. President? Let good old "Goldman Gary" formulate policy and flap his gums. Hell, the leakers will become the least of your worries.

I'd fire this suit's ass pronto or have him parachuted into Wise County, VA wearing an "I (heart) the carbon tax" button and a t-shirt emblazoned "Coal: obsolete and unclean."
