President Donald Trumps views on the Paris climate agreement are evolving, his chief economic adviser Gary Cohn told reporters today.
He came here to learn, Cohn said. So his views are evolving, which is exactly what they should be.
The presidents national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, then chimed in to say that the presidents decision about whether to remain in the agreement would ultimately be based on whats best for the United States; Cohn concurred.
The basis for the decision is ultimately going to be whats best for the United States, Cohn said. The future of the United States involvement in the landmark agreement, which the president repeatedly criticized as a candidate, has been a sticking point at the ongoing summit, with the Italian prime minister pointing to it as an "open question" at the day's conclusion.
There is one open question, which is the U.S. position on the Paris climate accords. All others have confirmed their total agreement on the accord, Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni said at the end of the first days session. We are sure that after an internal reflection, the United States will also want to commit to it.
The president is not expected to make a final decision on the accord until after he returns home. But Cohn indicated earlier today that the president was growing more attuned to the European stance on the issue.
"I think he is leaning to understand the European position, Cohn said when asked which way the president was leaning. Look as you know from the U.S. there's very strong views on both sides.

Of course it does. Using coal as a raw material, many products including flammable gases and liquid fuels can be made from it.
Cohn is now dominating all G7 stories and something stinks.
26 May: Bess Levin: White House Adviser Tells Europeans, Trump Came Here to Get Smarter
Gary Cohn does not stick to the script.
Top economic adviser goes rogue
Of all of the people who signed up to join the Trump administration, one of the most surprising was Gary Cohn. In his past life, the National Economic Council director was the president of Goldman Sachs, where he was surrounded by mostly intelligent people and had a boss who is widely respected. Hes a registered Democrat...
But the last several months have clearly worn on Cohn, and on Friday, he showed signs of taking the first step in a series of steps that might result in blurting out, I cant work with you morons anymore!
One of them involved trashing coal, i.e., the thing Trump seems to think is the cornerstone of a vibrant 21st-century economy. Mediaite (LINK) has the details of Cohns pique...
The other was the tacit admission that the president may be dumb, or at the very least, nowhere near up as smart as a person representing the U.S. at the G7 Summit should be...
Tweet: Jim Acosta (CNN): Cohn says of POTUS at G7 summit: “He came here to learn. He came here to get smarter.

after his “get smarter” tweet, Acosta has this-
Twitter: Jim Acosta CNN:
WH is tweeting pics from Cohn briefing. But it was off-camera and only avail to small pool of reporters. Full WH press corps had no access.

something not right about the whole Cohn story.
26 May: CNBC: AP: Trump has promised to revive the coal industry, but his economic advisor says that doesnt make much sense
Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., a longtime coal advocate, said he was taken aback by Cohns remarks, which sounded more in line with the Obama administration than Trump.
I completely disagree with his statement, Manchin said, adding that he plans to meet with Cohn to explain the role that coal has and will continue to play in making this country great.
Melinda Pierce, legislative director for the Sierra Club, the nations largest environmental group, said Cohns comments were accurate...

I was pointing that out during the transition. I believe that’s where the leaks are coming from. #NeverTrump RINOs were brought in and are more loyal to the RNC, Reince, etc. and are actively seeking to undermine Trump if not get him impeached.
Another Promise will bite the dust.
26 May: Breitbart: Cohn: Trump Becoming Smarter, More Knowledgeable on Climate Change
by Joel B. Pollak
White House economic advisor Gary Cohn made the curious comment in Sicily on Friday that President Donald Trumps views on climate change were evolving.
It was not clear exactly what that meant...
Like the term progressive, the term evolution implies an improvement in moral and intellectual terms, from prejudice and ignorance to reason and enlightenment. The left, presuming that its own views are superior, and that the long arc of history bends in its direction, expects people to evolve in its direction.
What was stranger were Cohns words explaining how Trump is said to be evolving. The president, he said, was becoming smarter and becoming more knowledgeable about the issue...
What defies explanation is why he would imply that his boss had previously been less smart about the issue, or less well informed.
It is the kind of comment that tends to reinforce the false narrative the media spins about every single Republican president i.e. that he is stupid...
It is also a comment that carries considerable political risk. Conservatives resent being told, usually by leftists, that their generally skeptical views on climate change are poorly informed, or denialist. Often, the leftists making such accusations cannot actually explain themselves how climate change is presumed to take place, and never consider a view other than their own.
For now, conservatives continue to hold out hope that the president evolves the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement...ETC

Liberal/Democrat Jivanka win again!
Cohn might be a leaker .
Lefty that talks too much to the left wing Dem media .
THIS GUY GOT TO GO NOW .
Cohn is another Goldman Sachs Democrat that the liberal/Democrat Jivanka got into dad’s administration, with Ivanka particularly claiming climate change as one of her signature issues.
Personnel is policy and who is feeding the president information on this is who wins on the policy level. Trump would have “learned” differently about this if, say, Donald Trump Jr and brother Eric had been the advisers educating Dad on this — and thus reinforcing the position he ran and was elected on.
Actually it is a western European position. Eastern Europe does not completly agree.
With the Democrats, Media, and with some Republicans opposed to Trump, it was/is important to surround himself with staff who believe in what he ran on. He’s already fighting the world so to speak - he doesn’t need to fight his staff.
If Trump stays in, the Democrats will still hate him. They will mock him for being weak and caving. They will then attack his supporters and say he is a “conman.” In other words, he can give them what they want, but they will attack him anyway. They will continue to bring up Russia and try to get him impeached. The only people he has are his voters. He needs to keep them happy because moderating will get him no Dem support, but it will cost him some of his own. His media team is not sufficiently fighting for him (see link in tagline), so he needs to foot soldiers to fight for him. They won’t do it if demoralized.
PRESIDENT TRUMP should give each member of the PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT a WEATHER ROCK and get on with the business of Making America Great Again.
Trump needs to fire Gary Cohen
Bingo.
Yep, Jivanka have led Trump down the wrong path on so many policy issues and staffing decisions it is astounding.
Just today alone, more unvetted “refugees”, Trump “learning” and “evolving” on the Paris accord, and anti-coal industry signals.
There is a reason Goldman Sachs expedited its payment of $275M to Cohn—it has a long-standing policy of paying its executives in various ways to take positions in the WH and assure that GS-friendly policies are enacted.
Personnel is policy and Trump unfortunately has made many poor personnel decisions in staffing his WH and cabinet.
Bingo! Trump seems to be forgetting the folks who actually brought him to the table.
FIRE GARY COHN....AND IVANKA.....AND JARED!!!!
AMEN!! Only GOD can control the climate!! It’s HUBRIS to think WE can!
They be grasping at straws - ever hopeful that He will cave to the snowflake pressure. I don’t see it.
