Steve Bannon is not a lawyer, but the chief White House strategist is poised to become the senior partner in a heavyweight firm of bareknuckle barristers at the center of President Trump's counter-offensive against Russia collusion claims.
Bannon, the former Breitbart executive whose no-holds-barred approach served Trump well in the homestretch of his presidential campaign, headed home from Trump's foreign trip and is reportedly the quarterback of an emerging war room of high-powered lawyers, surrogates and researchers.
Their mission: Respond, rebut and refute bad press and legal issues emanating from the special counsel probe led by former FBI Director Mueller into Russian influence on the 2016 election.
Bannon relishes a good fight.
"Steve is super savvy dealing with the media and dealing with crises," Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy told Axios.
While Bannon is poised to oversee the entire operation, the legal team being assembled is an eclectic roster of seasoned streetfighters and well-known litigators.
“A big legal team, even one with people with titanic reputations, can greatly benefit the person represented by that big team,” said former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy. “The Justice Department can throw endless resources at cases, so it makes a difference to be capable of matching them.”
Talks are still underway but Trump is reportedly leaning toward a well-rounded legal team as part of the overall strategy. Only the hiring of Trump’s long-time attorney Marc Kasowitz has been confirmed.
Others believed to be in the mix include a self-described 60s-era hippie close to Democrats, a conservative stalwart who has long known Mueller and former FBI Director Comey, and two corporate “uberlitigators.”
Finalists are reportedly Theodore Olson, Reid Weingarten and Robert Giuffra. Olson would not confirm whether he is being considered for the Trump war room. “I’m not commenting one way or the other on this situation,

HL - Do you think there are actual leaks and leakers? The subject keeps coming up, but I still have suspicions that private info is getting out there as a result of sophisticated bugging throughout the White House.
I’ve been distracted by other things recently, but does anyone know if discussions held aboard Air Force 1 were compromised?
It seems that the “leaking” meme is being promoted to cause strife and distrust among (probably loyal) DJT’s inner circle. It makes the fabric of his team weak if each person is wary of everyone else in a discussion. I don’t trust Obama for one single minute and we know some of them are experts in the best surveillance methods.

Bezos and Brock are landing countless unanswered hits on us with no WH help until now. We can bring down the deep state by solving Seth Rich’s murder all day, but nobody hears our trees falling in the forest because we have no media presence.
He just became very useful to Jarred since the FBI is after him now. His deep state buddies have turned on him and he is about to be used to try and take Trump down. That conservative junk yard dog is going to be his best friend in the world.

I don’t think the MSM will ever let up but it shouldn’t matter. As time goes on Trump is winning the people over. The constant anti-Trump media barrage is starting to lose its punch. People that halfway pay attention are realizing that Trump has America’s best interests in mind and is sticking to his campaign promises. His lecturing of the NATO leaders (who aren’t paying their 2% of GDP) the other day is an example of that. No other American president would ever have the gonads to say that right in front of them. And you know what, I bet by the end of his first term, all the NATO partners are paying their 2%. You just know it will happen.

What do you mean? I know Ted went to the dark side right after his wife was killed. He was on the other side on a SCOTUS case if I remember correctly.
It’s not news. Whatever is going on, Bannon is not going to be telling people like White House Counsel Dan McGahn and longtime DT loyalists like Michael Cohen and Marc Kasowitz what or what not to do.

For example: Comey was fired while he was in California, he hasn't seen his ‘things’ since then, if he had notes he would have used them on President Trump before he went to California...anything that people have on other people, they use it as soon as they get it...they don't have it, they can't use it...
This is a ‘witch hunt’ to impeach our President and that is all it is!!!
It was more about being able to communicate with us on the mission via his wife’s handle, BHO. Ted’s all over the place, but if Bannon thinks he’s useful in this matter, I trust his judgment.

Much much better article, thank you for the link. Still no named sources, but at least the story makes sense and assuming a team is being assembled, it is not limited to (and maybe not even aimed at) responding to MUH Russia.
Bannon leading the effort sounds like good news. I was hoping the rumors of Lewandowski and Bossie being part of the war room were true...
Olson is a huge promoter of homo marriage, and otherwise jamming homosexuality as normal, not deviant, behavior.
these folks will not only prove Trump had no collusion with the Russians, they may bypass the water carriers and go after who exactly is at the epicenter of all of this Russian collusion fake news and the leaking and hopefully those folks will end up with some serious jail time. It goes without saying that Soros, obozo and the Clintons have to be at the top of their list of suspects.
