House Speaker Paul Ryan defended fired FBI Director James Comey, saying the longtime law enforcement official President Trump sacked wasn’t crazy.
Asked about a report that Trump told top Russian officials that Comey was a “nut job” in a meeting the day after firing the FBI director, Ryan disagreed.
“Yeah, I don’t agree with that. And he’s not,” Ryan said at an Axios panel discussion.
He also went further, saying “I like Jim Comey.” […]
Ryan also commented on Trump calling him a boy scout.
“I took it as a compliment. I’m not sure it was meant that way. We’re just different people,” Ryan said. …

In 2015, after Boehner resigned, the Republican Caucus voted 200-45 in favor of Ryan.
There was no Caucus in 2017, as far as I know, but in the general House election, only one Republican voted against Ryan.
