Blue Cracks: Dems Finally Break Through, Flip Legislative Seats in Two Special Elections
Townhall.com ^ | May 24, 2017 | Guy Benson

Posted on 05/24/2017 8:28:01 PM PDT by Mafe

Up until now, the Democratic Party had gone 0-for-6 in Trump-era attempts to win GOP-held legislative seats, with Republicans actually adding to their tally in Louisiana. That changed in two northeastern states last night, where democrats won a pair of races, both of which must be considered significant upsets:

-- I'm puzzled why this article fails to mention that the NH GOP flipped a Dem-held seat at the same time they lost the GOP-held one. --

Explanation - author is Guy Benson. He aims to undercut Trump for the benefit of the GOPe.

I thought that the state House race that the GOP won in NH last week was for a GOP-held open seat.

The NH race is a bad one, but for some context:

The seat was won by a Republican last November. He immediately resigned to take a job with the new Republican governor. Our town announced that we couldn’t afford a special election, so that the seat would stay vacant until 2018.

This didn’t seem right. The Town Democrats led the campaign to reverse the decision, which was successful. The Republicans held a circular firing squad primary in April. The Democrat was a well-known local personage who has engaged in do-goodism for public things like park clean up and more money for the schools - you know the drill.

The Democrat’s campaign was “You know me”. The Republican’s campaign was every GOPe slogan ever invented, rinse and repeat. At the end, she was able to tie Paul Ryan around his neck.

And she won by about 100 votes.

It’s depressing. But I’m not sure it’s a sign.

Trump is going to have to go to war with his own party to save it

I said on January 20 that Trump had only a few months to decide whether or not to dispense with the GOP and run his own candidates in 2018. And I've said for years that we will never be free until R+D <218 in the House, and R+D <50 in the Senate.

Time's almost up, Mr. President. The Republican party is your enemy. The Democrats are worse. What's it going to be? Resignation, impeachment, or victory?

“The worry for the GOP is that an unpopular president plagued by controversy and scandal could drag down the party — particularly if liberal enthusiasm and anti-Trump intensity drives strong Democratic turnout, while complacent or demoralized Republicans disengage from the process. “

1. He’s popular.
2. All the fake news efforts to gin up controversy are starting to sound psychotic.
3. Republicans are the exactly opposite of “demoralized”. MAGA!

We are not on the offense, the media is controlling the narrative, and the feckless Republicans are acting as they usually do (virture signaling to the media and undermining Trump). If they can’t get things done, they will show they can’t govern. If Trump’s people don’t go on the offense and take control of the narrative, this Russia spin and the relentless media attacks will hurt him.

Exactly - the RINOs seem almost as distressed about our winning as the Dims are.

I get it but so far no one has told me anything about the races & candidates thenselves. That does have just a little to do with it.

Did the Rs campaign as Trumpists? Were local issues key?

Benson seems to try to be fair to Trump but he just can’t seem to help himself:

However just eight weeks ago things didn’t look so bad to Benson. Wow when GOP wins over and over ho hum when dems win it’s ominous.

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2017/03/28/resist-under-trump-dems-finally-flip-a-state-legislature-seatto-republicans-n2304918

Not saying to not keep an eye on things but wow it’s like scoring touchdowns on seven straight possessions but when not scoring on the eighth then there’s a “crack”.

spiteful and so hateful

I think its greed and pride(vanity) - But I agree its mind boggling. The need to make great simple bills and have the democrats and RINOs vote them down then the voters vote them out.

Protecting the ruling class by preventing the ruling class from having votes that won't pass is part of the problem

The establishment and swamp is alive and well, and the ongoing blitz and brainwashing by the media against Trump inevitably takes its toll.

As Anne Coulter has said Trump needs to stay focused on trade that benefits USA (not just CEOs and Wall St), controlling immigration illegal, H1Bs, refugees, that undermine American workers. Good paying jobs and a strong economy are critical to ever paying down debt and MAGA.

I personally think he should have let Obamacare fester until the Dems begged them to fix it. As it is now the Repubs will own it and everything that goes wrong.

Most important the media needs broken up into zillions of competing entities. It has become merged propaganda machine controlled by relative few.

The Repubs work harder to back stab Trump than they ever did to oppose Obama.

The traitor class - I hope that phrase catches on because that was Ryan and crew are they are part of the traitor class.

The split has happened and we are in realignment of political associations along with the parties. The labels have not changed which makes it confusing.

Still have yet to find anyone who has anything to say good about Paul Ryan he seems to be universally despised - and thats the leader? Oye Vey

This means we have to start calling, writing, e-mail the GOP
Congressmen particularly about the Investigation into Nothing. Read them the riot act.

“That changed in two northeastern states last night, where democrats won a pair of races...”

The whole north east went heavily against Trump in the election. It’s socialist territory. No surprise.

You can’t threaten these people. They are not on our side. Or, I should say, not enough of them are.

Too bad, no one bothers to defend Trump at all, even in his own party.

As you might recall, those pubbbies that wouldn't endorse Trump in the General, and were up for election, got defeated!
