I am sure I would not make it through the teen years now. When I grew up adults knew teens did not always make good choices and raised us to have morals, and rules to fall back on. On top of that my mother made a great effort to limit temptations, reinforce morals, ETC. constantly and consistently as did all the mother’s I knew.
There was teen sex then for sure but normally when it did happen it was far different than what I hear about now. I knew only committed couples that were at least convinced they were truly in love that went that far. Even then it was all kept so private others were not usually aware unless the girl became pregnant, and if that happened marriage was expected. Exceptions to that were rare and usually considered the result of “bad raising” on the part of parents.
Now parents of many teens seem to think teen sex is normal, expected, has no meaning and even put young teen girls on birth control before the teen may even be considering sex as a matter of course. I think this reinforces to teens that sex is not part of love and is indeed a casual thing. Wrong for so many reasons- starting with the mental and emotional well being of the teens involved.
I am convinced that God put it in our brain that sex is important, special, and something should be dealt with very seriously. I am convinced God intended us to mate for life in order to raise children together as a couple. As we can see that does not happen when people are casual about sex. People I have known during my life that do not respect that seem to be pretty messed up people. Adults can’t manage to deal with casual sex very well and teens are really not developed enough to even be trying to process that.
Many people now think it is just animal instinct and natural. I might believe that too except for the fact that our brains process it far more than animal brains do, it has more meaning to us whether we choose to believe that or not.

They treat it like it is absolutely nothing. I think it is a result of the ubiquitous access to porn that technology now allows that has never happened before. Seems like at least it stayed only between two people before, at least without actual video evidence instantly sent to friends.

Adults used to make sure that teens and even the unmarried had very little opportunity to be alone together. Girls were not included in the sports spending simply because boys needed to use up all their energy on something besides sex. We’ve forgotten or outlawed all the methods the culture used to ensure strong marriages and families.
I saw that thread on FR the other day about most people agreeing that “12 sex partners” per person was about right. That’s just the loneliest thing ever.
