The book was amazing science fiction but the first movie that came out of it, despite an excellent cast, was laughable. Not surprising since the director was David Lynch of Eraserhead fame (or infamy).

The Bene Gesserit were part of a centuries long selective breeding program designed to direct the course of galactic history through marriages into the ruling families with the ultimate aim of the birth of a male Bene Gesserit who would be able to see through time and space. The book was heavy with religious metaphors.Anyway, Ivanka in that picture looks like my image of one of them. Extremely beautiful, intelligent, eerily composed, and dangerous when confronted with falsehood.

I remember reading several of the books and saw the movie (Remember Kyle McLachlan a the star) Spice was the prized ingredient for all. Produced by the worms found only on Arrkias?? Kyle I believe played Paul Antredis whose mother was Lady Jessica. Lady Jessica when she became Bene Gesserit drank a potion of Life’s waters and spice. At the time, she didn’t realize she was pg and thus, when Paul was born he, too, had this potion flowing thru his veins. “Life’s waters” was the fluid pressed from the body of the dead beloved. Fail to remember the exact word used; not certain if it was known as ‘life’s water’. Water being rare it was a high commodity. Spice users were also able to navigate space travel and fold space (IIRC) No doubt - I’ll need to find a copy of Dune and once again sit through the hours of video to refresh what little memory remains And, yes, do agree that Ivanka would have been perfect cast as a BG.
After Dune, Kyle moved on to Twin Peaks. Best scene in the movie was the fat, puss-y sadist jet packing around the palace shouting to those he looked down upon. And the riding of the worms. Much more difficult than hailing a NY taxi. Like the very long movie, after the first few books of Dune, you thought you were in quicksand and I lost interest.
