Why should a win in overtime be valued the same as a win in regulation?
I say, get rid of OT except for playoffs. Can’t decide a game in regulation? Tough noogies, then neither team deserves to win.
Why have OT at all? Except as playoffs and Championships and Superbowls...............
Between Pink-Tober and the other girly madness, the NFL is becoming sissified down to its last player. If these guys don’t know the dangers of this sport, they shouldn’t play. And soccer has many more injuries than the NFL will ever have. Don’t see anyone sissifying soccer (as if it’s not already sissified)
Whenever I see a story like this I assume it has everything to do with fitting games into TV schedules.
It should be decided by the number of millionaires taking a knee.
NFL could handle overtime the same way the NCAA does.
My suggestion: If the team that has the ball first in overtime doesn’t score, award the other team one point. Game over.
NO TIES!!!
This is American Football...Not soccer, NO F’n ties!!! It feels the same, but you know it still isn’t right, it’s un-American!!!
“Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. That’s why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. The very thought of losing is hateful to Americans.” General George S. Patton, 1944
No TIES!!!
There is a better way to solve the tie game situation. Change the scoring for field goals—goal line to 25 yards gets one point, 35 to 50 gets 2 points and any kick beyond 50 yards gets 3 points. This would change the game for the better and force head coaches to make some tough decisions. Never did understand why a PAT from the 2 yard line got 1 point, but a field goal from that same 2 yard line got 3 points.
Ties make things more interesting.
If the game is tied after OT, they could have a field-goal shootout to decide the game [/sarc].
The ‘Noodles For Lunch’ crowd strikes again.
whatever happened to “Just Win BaBY!!!” *-?
The funny part is they could have easily shortened overtime just by getting rid of that lame “everybody gets a turn” rule, most of these games that end in ties actually have both teams getting touchdowns.
I think Americans have a weird complex about ties. They should just end in regulation. More ties would actually help simplify the standings and make the league less reliant on that increasingly bizarre list of tiebreakers.
No problem here with a 10 min. OT so long as if it ends in a tie both teams meet at mid-field and go at it.
The team with the last man standing wins.
I don’t see the problem with tied games at the end of official play.
Computers can still figure out standings. Right?
Any ties in standings at the end of the season can be can be worked out through the play off process.
Why? Because the Players are pissed that it will drop their avg. salaries from 200k an hour to 190k.
Institute Roller Ball rules.
Television advertisements and scheduling (of the next program, that also has advertisements lined up, ready to go and earn revenue).
Sing it, Meghan
A tie is like kissing your sister.
