Inherited Intelligence: Scientists Discover Over 50 New Intelligence Genes
Newsweek ^ | 5/22/2017

Scientists have discovered over 50 new genes relating to intelligence—a finding that gives us a far better insight into the “genetic architecture of intelligence” and how this relates to IQ.

While the exact percentage is widely debated, scientists generally agree that a large proportion of intelligence is inherited—and therefore based on genetic factors. But intelligence is not a straightforward trait influenced by just a few genes. Rather, there are hundreds of genes that make up a complex web, the vast majority of which research has yet to identify.

A team of scientists has now uncovered over 50 genes relating to intelligence using a sample of almost 80,000 people. Their large-scale meta-analysis took into account several different measures of intelligence, coupled with the participants’ genetic data.

Two types of genetic analysis revealed different genes linked to intelligence. The first, known as a genome-wide association study, revealed 22 genes, 11 of which were completely new. In the other approach, genome-wide gene association analysis, the team found a further 29 new intelligence genes.

Most of these genes were found in brain tissue: “Pathway analysis indicates the involvement of genes regulating cell development,” the scientists wrote in the journal Nature Genetics.

Corresponding author Danielle Posthuma, from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Netherlands, tells Newsweek she was not expecting to find as many genes as they did: “I’ve run a lot of genome studies and a lot of the time you don’t find a lot of genes, even though the traits you are investigating are highly heritable. And it’s only if you have a really large sample size that you start to find things.”

Genetic engineering. Within a generation, it will be possible to alter many characteristics, including increasing (or decreasing) individual intelligence.

Combine this with the ability to re-generate limb growth, cultivate organs or employ other kinds of industrial 'farming' technologies, and we'll definitely be entering a new era.

Understanding these organic trends (along with exponentially increased computing power on the inorganic side) allows those in the loop to plot out and project where this leads.

IMO, it's why the native populations in both Europe and N America are being replaced with sub-100 IQ 'immigrants'. In an era of energy scarcity, it will be easy to manipulate those less cognitively able to understand the system that enslaves them.

Perhaps a key element will be the modification or elimination of the belief gene(s) to wean them from Islam. That's why the elites aren't afraid of religious threat; it will be trivial to convert that kind of allegiance to service to the state.

You know. I used to just hang around here for the light hearted commentary. NOT to be scared outta my wits!

Which always leads me to the question: how do cells know where they are in the body such that the correct genes are expressed?

This is a vast topic but, In general, cellular signaling molecules transported into the nucleus causes genes to be turned on or off.

I understand. But how do the signaling molecules know where they are in the body? The human starts as a single cell then keeps dividing. Somewhere, cells start to specialize. How does a cell know to become a liver cell, or nerve cell etc?

Why are the appropriate gene expressions happening where they’re suppose to?

Probably a dumb question but the idea fascinates me to no end.

Not a dumb question at all. It is one of the major issues of developmental biology: how cells differentiate. An undifferentiated stem cell is obviously receiving information — signals — from the outside that tells it what type of cell to turn into. But it is such a big topic that I can tell you little here in a comment. You can get the highlights in this fairly well-written Wiki article:

Thanks for the link. I’ll have to wade through it but it’s so fascinating and thought provoking.

If I could have a redo, I’d go into micro biology.
