True, but any visit to at least a political forum or thread will see much contention if diverse views are allowed.
And just WHAT do you mean something is wrong on the Internet? And you are going to fix it?! You propaply cant evin speel.
Sounds like you are trying to pick a fight. Troll! :)😀
likely mostly by a devoted minority much in defense of their church in which is so much of their hope and dreams. It is kind of like sports. You will see far more contention about different teams due to loyalty to particular ones then about the sport itself.
We have a few feisty FReepers who are prone to pounce on newbies. And a few who just love to pounce on everyone for all, or nothing at all.
Remember how brutal the GOP primaries were??? It appears that we did have a number of silent departures.
Verbal violence is very prevalent in the ‘comment’ sections of NEWS sites. Especially between ProTrumpers and antiTrumpers.
LOL!
You're funny!...You're really funny!...You're a funny guy!
BACK OFF! THEY CAN SAY ANYTHING THAT I AGREE WITH! GO TELL YOUR MOM YOU WANT A PBJ WITH SPROUTS!
Well, it is a Christian researcher, and is not much an in-depth study, but it includes stats on Gen-Xers, Boomers and Elders, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, full-time workers, retired, unemployed, parents with young children at home or without, white adults, black adults, women, those with a high school education or less, college graduates, liberals and conservatives.
Who else is there? And what else is there?
Yep. Mine is at least 1/3 larger!
You mean the last 1,000+ post thread was too brief?
And which proves just what?! Maybe you have a bigger monitor? Then you must be reported to the local "share the wealth" center since you must be victimizing someone! someone here at the DU can direct you.
On a serious note I remember reading, I felt that I was confronting the signature essence of my social life among leftists. We rushed to cast everyone in one of three roles: victim, victimizer, or champion of the oppressed. We lived our lives in a constant state of outraged indignation. I did not want to live that way anymore. I wanted to cultivate a disposition of gratitude...
LOL!
Well, I cut my teeth on the Internet back in the ‘Wild West’ days of Usenet.
I was fascinated with it, but amazed at how nasty so many people were. It seemed to me that they’d be embarrassed to present themselves in public in the way that they did. But I eventually realized that there are a lot of people out there who use this to validate themselves somehow - and, yes, they do so in a venue where they never have to pay for their actions.
I learned a few things:
Never let your ego rule your activity online. A lot of people embarrass themselves just because their egos are offended, and they have to ‘prove’ themselves somehow. It never gets them respect except from like fragile egos - and it causes more thoughtful people to just stay away from them. Always ask yourself: “Am I dealing in substance here, or am I just posting to ‘get over’ ‘get back’ and look clever?”
Remember always how very ‘thin’ this medium is. Anything you write can very easily be misunderstood or hurt someone’s feelings or ego. You have to be thoughtful about the way you couch things, and think twice or three times when you’re angry and tempted to ‘spout’ in a less than polite way.
Don’t correct anybody else’s spelling or grammar: this is a weird, new way of ‘communicating’, and the brain works differently here than it does when we’re doing ‘regular’ writing and speaking. I’ve noticed that many times people make mistakes simply because of the nature of the medium; and there are good people with important things to say even if their education in the finer points of language isn’t as good as yours is. If you can understand what they’re saying, that’s what matters.
However, make sure that your OWN spelling, grammar, syntax are as correct and clear as you can make them, so that you will be understood in the way that you want to be.
When I first encountered very early online *stuff* back in the late 70s, it seemed a lot like Ham Radio. I think a lot of the sensibilities that still govern conduct on amateur radio are useful here, as well.
I’M GONNA KEEP TYPING IN ALL CAPS WHILE HIDING BEHIND ANONYMITY, THAT’S WHAT I’M GONNA DO ABOUT IT!!!!!!
