I have a problem with describing Social Security & Medicare as entitlements seeing I paid into them for almost 60 years.
I never have liked the term "entitlements" for welfare. Who do the recipients think they are that they are "entitled" to my money. It reminds me of one charity I had donated money to for a couple of years. When they didn't reach me by phone they just sent me a bill for the third year. They never got another penny. If anything, SS and Medicare recipients are actually entitled to the money because they've paid in for a lifetime and have been promised a payment.

Right? It’s not an entitlement. We do have to get a handle on this beast though. Congress should be looking at changing the system. Keep those 50 and older on the current system. 49 and below need to be phased into a plan that makes sense for today.
60+ Trillion in unfunded liabilities? Ain’t ever gonna remain solvent.
How about unfunded liabilities?
Every penny contributed by you was plundered. Your SS and Medicare are funded by current tax payers.
I have no problems with you receiving what you were promised but both meet the definition of an entitlement IMO.
I like you feel I am entitled to all of the money they took from me for SS and Medicare for all the years I have worked and paid into the system.
I was made a promise that I would get that money back and to have that promise broken now means my money was stolen from me.
I know how it was sold, but what was paid was a tax, not a deposit to a savings account.
At one time on my paycheck social security was actually called a FICA tax as it should have been.
Not saying that it should be taken away. Just saying that technically it was and always has been a tax with no guarantee of payment... despite what the politicians and media have sold everyone.
