NY Times: Trump, Shouting 'Death Spiral,' Has Nudged Affordable Care Act Downward
NY Times ^ | May 20, 2017 | Robert Pear

Posted on 05/21/2017 5:10:23 AM PDT by Zakeet

When Aetna, the health insurance giant, announced this month that it was pulling out of the Affordable Care Act's insurance exchange in Virginia in 2018, President Trump responded on Twitter: "Death spiral!"

When Humana announced plans to leave all the health law's marketplaces next year, the president chimed in, "Obamacare continues to fail."

Left unremarked on was a big reason for the instability: The Trump administration and Congress are rattling the markets.

The administration's refusal to guarantee payment of subsidies to health insurance companies, the murky outlook for the Affordable Care Act in Congress and doubts about enforcement of the mandate for most people to have insurance are driving up insurance prices for 2018, insurers say in rate requests filed with state officials.

Well before the Republicans and Trump came up with the abortive first Ryan care reform of Obama care, I advised that the only sensible political course was to let Obama care implode and then ride to the rescue. It is now not too late to let Obamacare go under. Seems to me that the president is within his rights to fail to continue to pay what a district judge has declared to be unconstitutional payments.

Jawboning the carriers to the effect that they will not be bailed out would accelerate the process.

The problem is that Ryan and the establishment Republicans, the leftists Republicans in the Senate, and Donald Trump himself all refused to face the realities of a national healthcare insurance system which incorporates features such as pre-existing condition which are politically attractive but which doomed the system to huge expense and even bankruptcy.

Now our only hope is that the Senate rejects the second reform attempt, in the teeth of the president's support, and delays long enough for the failure and implosion of Obama care to become obvious.

Alas, a forlorn hope.

Let us not forget, the real repeal of Obama care was one of the legs in Trump's plan revivify the economy.

So the next time you see an article from Robert Pear that sounds plausible ... you’ll know he’s an established partisan hack.

The elite lying mediots, who control the NY Slimes, ABCNNBCBS, Faux,, WSJ, Compost, and LaRaza Slimes fail to realize: President Trump does not need them to speak to his 62+ million voters/us.

He Tweets us, sends his contributors emails and controls the White House digital system. He bypasses the left wing mediots, when he communicates directly with us.

Again, neither President Trump, nor his 62+ million voters need nor do we want the NY Slimes, BBC, ABCNNBCBS, Faux, the LaRaza/LA Slimes, WSJ, Compost, and LaRaza Times trying to tell us what our president is telling us. We know without their twisting and word games.

We don’t need the “old gotcha” press conferences. With the whining and lying liberal mediots attacking our president. We are tired of the mediots lying and telling us what to believe and how to vote! Ban them from the White House. Trump’s comments and statements are for his voters. We don’t need lying liberal mediots to tell us what he says to us. There is zero filtering, adjusting and lying to us when Trump talks to us directly!

Official Washington is being traumatized by the tweets of Donald Trump.

Trump speaking directly to the people via Twitter or the Whitehouse.com is causing a crisis among mediots, politicians, Never Trumpsters and lobbyists. They just don't know how to handle “Trump’s Twitter feed which traumatizes Washington and his enemies.

I find it interesting a Republican can utter “death spiral” and a progressive program can crash and burn, but no amount of shouting “green shoots” by a Democrat can have any positive effect. It’s almost as if the commentary really has no effect on reality. Curious that.

“why post this crap here?”

The NYT and WaPo are either the outlet for a coordinated coup d’état against the elected President, or alternatively, they are prime-movers directing the show.

Some believe that it is useful to know what lies the NYT and other DNC outlets are spreading now so we can shoot them down. It gives us the illusion we are doing something about it, and in about one out of a thousand cases, maybe we are.

Nah, we will end up with some version of this, it won’t be perfect but Ocare is dead. We will slowly chip away at the remaining stuff in this bill til what remains is pretty good.

The economy had baked in Ocare, so there will be a rather massive recovery regardless, and we can see it already.

A month ago I had to have a blood draw. Cost $410; prior to 0bamacare that draw cost $148.

Leftists always blame freedom for the economic and social failure of their programs. They blame the US for the economic failure of communism. If there is a voice of freedom, that is what they point to in order to explain their
stupidity.

That is why “globalism” must encompass all nations governments and the program will be Marxism. They say this global government will be “modeled” after the Chi-com power structure.

When this bill gets to the Senate is hard to look at the composition of the Senate, especially the leaders, and conclude otherwise than the bill will be made worse in the Senate when the likes of McConnell, Alexander and Schumer get their hands on it.

Likewise, any expectation that the final legislation will be cured by administrative fiat is equally forlorn. No thinking conservative believed that would be the salvation when it was invoked to justify the first non-repeal, non-reform and there is no reason to believe it now.

As to the economy already having "baked in" the negative aspects of Obama care, we are talking about a need to dramatically improve GNP to at least well above 3% if the looming debt disaster is to be averted. That means that all the legs of Trump's plan, tax cuts, regulation cut, repatriation of offshore funds, trade reform and Obama care must be in place. The market is anticipating a lot of reforms and might crash if they are not enacted because the reforms have been "baked in."

Obama has been in office for approximately 130 days and it is difficult to identify anything that he has done to revive the economy except jawbone. Admittedly, he has been successful in jawboning but that has its limits in a huge economy. It is well to keep pro hoc propter hoc in mind. It is more probable that the economy was moving upward on a cyclical basis after eight years of sluggish recovery from the great recession and it is equally more logical to believe that the market had already anticipated the reforms-at least until the recent weeks from hell in which the market began to believe there might be an impeachment and therefore no reforms

I would add a second thought that Trump (not Obama as I referred to erroneously in the last paragraph of my previous post) has done some things concerning regulations especially in the energy sphere in moving the pipelines and opening lands which no doubt have encouraged the markets.

I get my family’s insurance thru employer... so is not 0bamacare but it is “0bamcare compliant”....

So I have premiums that are increasing like they always have, but instead of 90% it pays 75%. Instead of a 2500 deductible, I have a 12,500 deductible.

I don’t have the doctors I’ve had for decades.

I’m really very pissed off.

Functionally I have the benefits of a catastrophic plan but I pay through the nose as if it were a gold-plated Cadillac plan.

0bamacare just sux in every way. It must be GONE.
