NOLA Mayor: Civil War Monuments Caused a ‘Great Migration’ Out of the City ("Best and Brightest")
Breitbart ^ | 5-19-2017 | John Binder

Posted on 05/20/2017 9:37:17 AM PDT by brucedickinson

“The cultural and economic and the spiritual loss to this city for having those statues up that have run people out of the city,” Landrieu claimed. “The great migration that sent some of our best and brightest to places across the country that we don’t have the benefit of has been incredible.”

“Sometimes I can’t believe some of the horse blank coming out of the mouths of politicians.
He really thinks, that population decline in New Orleans, has been due to confederate monuments???? Really????”

My guess is he is pandering. NOLA has gotten it’s last dime from me.

Of course, it had nothing to do with crime and government corruption.

Oh man... that line STILL has everyone here gaping! The STATUES did it?? Let this local tell you why N.O. is a declining sump hole-a predominant, low class, criminally inclined population(of all races, but mostly black). Neighborhoods like Gentilly, that used to be considered upper middle class when I was growing up are now crime-infested and decaying. Never heard of Gen.Lee running through sabering people at nite-not even once! Canal St was a pleasant place to shop until the project residents behind Krauss ran rampant. Loss from theft and air conditioned malls killed that. Tourists are encouraged to stroll from their hotels into some of the worst gang-banging loiterers you could imagine. Same with the Marigny and Treme. It's like raw meat walking through a pride of hungry lions.

I am a native. My ancestors came with Lemoyne and are entombed in the floor of St.Louis Cathedral. I did a lot of my genealogical research by going to history books and files in the Presbytere. They owned slaves- lots of them, I have the records-but I have not benefitted from that. Distant relatives of those same ancestors still sit in mansions Uptown where their plantations had been. I haven't seen one of the 'old line' families feeling guilty for their current social positions.

Not ONE of my immediate family still resides in Orleans parish. I haven't set foot over the Jefferson parish line since Katrina-and don't plan to. New Orleans-IMO and many others' opinions-is doomed: geographically, financially, demographically and meteorologically. The feel in the city reflects that: party and make money while(and any way) you can.Crime is positively virulent-everywhere. Only the most violent/gun related crime even makes the news. Every attempt is made to ignore or sugar coat any negativity that would ruin the party vibe. Most don't know-and don't WANT to know!
Look, I get the 'lets not celebrate slavery' thing, BUT, I don't get the 'pain and offense' for anything that hurt your ancestors hundreds of years ago but NO offense or outrage for people killing your relatives NOW! Whites' brutalized blacks hundreds of years ago? Punishment and shame must be dealt out. Blacks brutalizing and killing blacks NOW? There must be 'understanding', rehabilitation, forgiveness if your kids 'friends' blow him away and leave his body in the street! Why? Because it's easier to be accepted as eternally victimized by dead white men than it is by living black criminals.
Those statues didn't oppress anyone, or cause people to flee N.O. in racially PC horror. Not even the living-very rich society- descendants who own Uptown, reign as Rex and Comus, and celebrate each other at galas and on society pages-discourage visitors and residents. The all pevasive mentality of N.O. has done that. Crime has done that- and still will.
There are 3 New Orleans'. The tourist-aimed, glossy, blinders on Kumbaya N.O. Wealthy, society, runs everything behind the scenes N.O. who think their presence makes the city urbane and cultured, and REAL N.O.: working poor whites and blacks completely outnumbered by fearless criminals who live off the 'evil white man's' government(housing, welfare, food, education, healthcare and phones)They claim victimhood of slavery while STILL slaves to the government instead of a plantation master/owner. Their males still go house to house(instead of cabin to cabing at the behest of a slaveowner) to impregnate females and create more 'broken' families and dependent children. The culture allows it, the government pays for it, the crime stats reflect it and...all the while...the statues are responsible.

I find it all very amusing-this statue business. It's like watching people fight over the artwork onboard the Titanic. It doesn't matter. N.O. is one big hurricane from eradication. Now, even R.E.Lee, 5 stories up in the air, won't be left above water to mark where there used to be a city in the Gulf of Mexico.

Perhaps NO needs to think in terms of reconciling its geography, for starters. Perhaps a Venice on the Gulf approach. It might be more cost effective just to move the city further inland. Stop fighting nature. Start fighting crime.

I left BEFORE Katrina and have never looked back
I knew personally William J (Dollar Bill) Jefferson, Mayor Mark Morial, Gov Edwin Edwards and numerous other nefarious a holes, Police etc
Statues are the least of New Orleans problems

They’ll erect statues of unused yellow buses in their place!

I predict the removal of statues of a bunch of Democrats will not change the IQ level in New Orleans.

That is so not true. I left the city over 30 years ago and the monuments were the furthest thing from my mind.

Oh, what a loan of horse hockey. If the ‘best and brightest’ have fled New Orleans, it’s more likely because of the crappy administrations, run by Democrats, and the crime problem in the city that Katrina only slowed down, but didn’t stop.

I have no problem if Houston returns the “best and brightest” of New Orleans, but I doubt the historical statues had anything to do with the exodus. The historical revisionism and erasure of statues and history reminds me of the Soviet Union. Very alarming!!! Those Democrats are dangerous.
