The wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R), Callista Gingrich, is going to be announced as the next ambassador to the Vatican, potentially this week, according to reports.

The announcement is pending approval of the Office of Government Ethics, but is targeted to be made before President Donald Trump meets with Pope Francis on 24 May in Rome, according to the report.

Newt Gingrich, a strong supporter of President Trump, acknowledged to reporters that his wife is “under consideration” for the Ambassadorship and he would be “very excited for her.”

Have a terrific weekend.

You’ve GOT to be kidding.

Why not just appoint a poof? At least the sodomites would be happy.

Leave Newt at home?

Given Catholic teachings on divorce and remarriage I'd leave them both at home.

Smart move, Mr. Trump. Newt will need to watch his phrasings while giving interviews. Newt is good to have on your side, but he can be very damaging when he wants to be. This tactic has worked somewhat on Mitch McConnell.

I am very disappointed that Newt does not have a prominent role in this administration. I believe Newt could have helped them avoid some of their unforced legislative errors.

Interesting tidbit from Wiki:

Callista Bisek met Newt Gingrich in 1993 when he was House Minority Whip and she was working in the office of Congressman Gunderson.[21] Callista testified in 1999 as part of Gingrich’s divorce proceedings that the couple began a six-year affair in 1993 while Newt was married to his second wife, Marianne.[22][23] Newt divorced Marianne in December 1999, and on August 18, 2000, Callista and Newt were married in a private ceremony in Alexandria, Virginia.[3] In 2002, Newt Gingrich asked the Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta to annul his 19-year marriage to Marianne on the basis that she had been previously married.[24] Callista, a lifelong Catholic, was instrumental in her husband’s conversion to that faith in 2009.[25] The Gingriches live in McLean, Virginia.[2]

The Church does not recognize divorce and remarriage.

My mistake. I assumed she was divorced, but apparently not.

Carrying on a six year affair, but marrying and converting Newt doesn’t seem like so much of an insult.

Newt’s problem is he loves hearing himself talk and hates self-monitoring what he is actually saying!

"I am very disappointed that Newt does not have a prominent role in this administration."

-Me too. I can see Newt being demanding if Trump doesn't do what he wants. Newt has gone publicly with outrage at Trump and in those cases Trump was usually right but the worst part was Newt should have stayed private with the negative comments.

About that...

Anyone this tone deaf and clueless needs to be kept far far away from the levers of power.

After reading her profile on Wikipedia, I am not surprised. She is intelligent, and has numerous accomplishments. Interesting choice.

Newton Gingrich may have been the “grinch” that savde the Romney nomination in 2012, taking those critical primary votes from Santorum and thinking that only GA and SC were needed for the nomination. Then that awful Kasich comes along in 2016 thinking OH alone was sufficient.

Newt is helping out in ways right now, that you wouldn’t understand if I spelled it out for you.

Perfect!

"I believe Newt could have helped them avoid some of their unforced legislative errors."

That's a pretty yuge target-rich zone, but I would call them PR errors instead of legislative.

She's the ambassador of the United States. She could be an atheist, Baptist, Buddhist or Shinto.
