McCain Blasts Trump on Lack of Human Rights Focus
The New Delhi Times ^ | May 9, 2017 | Staff

U.S. Senator John McCain is criticizing the foreign policy of the Trump administration, saying it is not focused enough on human rights abuses around the world.

In an op-ed article for the New York Times Friday, the Republican senator said the United States has an obligation to speak out for human rights as a country that was created from “an ideal that liberty is the inalienable right of mankind.”

He criticized recent comments made by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who said conditioning U.S. foreign policy too heavily on values creates obstacles to advance U.S. national interests.

“With those words, Secretary Tillerson sent a message to oppressed people everywhere: Don’t look to the United States for hope … We make policy to serve our interests, which are not related to our values,” McCain wrote.

McCain said some will credit Tillerson’s point of view with realism, but he said “if by realism they mean policy that is rooted in the world as it is, not as we wish it to be, they couldn’t be more wrong.” He said it is foolish to view realism and idealism as incompatible. McCain said the demand by people for human rights is reality, and said that by denying them these rights, we “invite their enduring resentment.”

“To view foreign policy as simply transactional is more dangerous than its proponents realize,” he wrote. “Our values are our greatest strength and treasure.”

McCain, a Republican senator from Arizona, has criticized the Trump administration on a range of issues, including the president’s immigration orders and wish to have better relations with Russia. McCain has also sparred with the president about comments he made on the possible legality of torture and gave only a lukewarm endorsement of Tillerson during his confirmation process.

In a weird way, we actually dodged a bullet in 2008.

You're absolutely right.

Can you imagine this maniac—John McCain— having actually been elected President?

In retrospect, I daresay the consequences could have been worse than having Obama elected—and that's saying something.

If the Media wants to talk about mentally imbalanced people serving in government, Senator McCain leads the pack by a wide margin. The guy is just totally out of control...

He wouldn’t have done that either. Neither Congressional Dems nor RINOs would allow that even if his mercurial rhetoric spun in that direction. Things might have even tended in the direction of impeachment on mental health grounds.

Besides, how much were Dems bucking for a new cold war with Russia during this past election?

Funny how McCain has never once expressed concern for the human rights of the POWs we left behind in Vietnam.

Bassturd.

McCain is the consummate “nattering nabob of negativity”...never a positive on ANYTHING. Always...ALWAYS, bitching about something, or someone.

I would have hate to have seen him as president.

He is the spoiled, elitist, child of an admiral whose world views are as skewed as his “hero” designation.

He shares little in common with conservatism, his desire to be liked by the media has driven him so far left the difference between him and Chuck Schumer is barely discernable.

And his “I could have done it better” attitude drives himehimm to knock down Trump at every microphone moment.

He treats everything as a checkbox. Support the war? Check. Made a worthless statement about human rights? Check.

How about understanding the job as the chief executive is about enforcing the laws and not molly-coddling every limp-wristed, jelly spined non-citizen (or citizen).

Everyone remembers McLame speaking out about the human rights violations and genocide of Christians in the Middle East. Not. He’s also been all over the human rights abuses and murder of Christians in North Korea and China - not.

He was beside himself about the harassment of Christians in the military and US, in general. Not.

Human rights “concerns” coming out of McCain’s mouth is pure propaganda. McBackstabber loves war- not human rights.

McCain should have learned from Kirkpatrick:
Jeane Duane Kirkpatrick (née Jordan; November 19, 1926 – December 7, 2006) was an American diplomat and political scientist. An ardent anticommunist, she was a longtime Democrat who became a Republican in 1985. After serving as Ronald Reagan’s foreign policy adviser in his 1980 campaign, she became the first woman to serve as US Ambassador to the United Nations.
She was known for the “Kirkpatrick Doctrine”, which advocated supporting authoritarian regimes around the world if they went along with Washington’s aims. She believed that they could be led into democracy by example. She wrote, “Traditional authoritarian governments are less repressive than revolutionary autocracies.”

Tell ya what, Juan McLame . . . . you get elected President, and you can set foreign policy.

Now, just go away before George Soros flashes the Queen of Diamonds at you again. . .
