Map of the planned Turkish Stream (Wikipedia).
Russias Gazprom has begun constructing the first stage of the Turkish Stream pipeline that will run gas from southern Russia across the Black Sea to Turkey, Reuters reported on Sunday.
Switzerlands Allseas Group S.A has begun laying pipes on the Russian shore of Black Sea. The pipeline will when completed by the end of 2019 allow the state-owned Gazprom company to send gas direct to southern Europe through the Turkish Stream while bypassing Ukraine.
The Turkish Stream intergovernmental agreement was signed in October 2016 after having been halted for almost a year following the shootdown of a Russian fighter jet by Turkey in November 2015.
The European Union has opposed previous projects of Gazprom to ship gas direct to southern Europe, forcing the Russian company to ditch preceding plans.
Russia is a petro country.
Look at the map.
Its why Ukraine had to be pried out of the Russian sphere of influence.
Competing pipelines from the West’s Sunni friends in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf have to pass through Syria. Its why “regime change” was needed there.
Yes, follow the money.
That is a very volatile section of the globe right now.
Once the heavy pipes have been laid, it’s just a matter of time when ISIS, Kurds, Chechnens, or other enemies of the Putin/Erdogan alliance try to destroy that pipeline. With so many ready to benefit from it’s use, the project may be under full surveillance at all times.
Are the turkeys in the pipeline refrigerated or frozen? Couldn't help myself
Well it was true.
I saw one posted here a few days ago, it was dead, picked of feathers and ready for the pot.
Must be a big demand for Turkeys.
Turkey ping
There are plenty of Turkey’s in Erdogan the Islamist’s domain.
Yes, but won’t this pipeline drive up the cost of domestic turkeys?
“:^)
Biblical prophecy
Always follow the money. Now we know whose side Russia is on.
Gog and Magog. Massive gas field offshore Israel and massive oil field under the Golan Heights. Hook in the jaw. Maranatha.
It is a terribly worded title.
Pretty shrewd move by the Russkies.
1. Pries Turkey away from the Gulf States and Saudis in fomenting regime change in Syria. Turkey still gets gas and transit rights fees, only now it gets them from the Russians instead of the Saudis.
2. It defuses hostilities between Turkey and Russia.
3. Gives Russia a freer hand in blocking the Saudi pipelines through Syria.
4. Ties into what was intended to be the terminus of the Saudi pipeline that was to transit Syria and Turkey, so they can piggy-back on someone else’s infrastructure costs instead of bearing it all themselves.
5. Bypasses Ukraine to deliver Russian gas to Europe.
The Russians win all around here.
I agree. Had to play with it...
Probably a puree o Turkey slurry. Can be used in your gas tank, or in new beverages like "Coke Poultry."
Mmmm, turkey slurry.
Oh and henkster, you've brought out some interesting points. With Russia, it's always about strategic advantage.
