I suppose anyone who is able to consider themselves fan of the Confederacy might want to preserve its heritage but it’s not an issue for conservatives.

What happens when all the confederate monuments get toppled?- then it's on to the evil white man monuments to the American Revolution, then WWI/WWII, Christian and Jewish sites and every other representation of the American legacy. This is no different than the islamists destroying antiquities across Afghanistan and Iraq, or the Nazis tearing down everything Jewish.
Communist/Fascists have to have a boogieman to keep the revolution and the world burning.
