And when Fadwa Alaoui, 39, a Moroccan-born Canadian, tried to drive into Vermont for her monthly shopping trip, she faced questions about her religious beliefs and politics and gave up her phone to be searched, only to be turned away.

I suppose people could tell similar stories for the past 40 years. Back in the seventies, me and my long-haired friends were detained by Canadian border officials for an hour because they didn’t like our looks; none of us had any sort of criminal record or DUI or marijuana bust. But since Trump is in office, these stories will suddenly be newsworthy.
