U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the dean of the Florida legislative delegation and the first Cuban American elected to Congress, is retiring at the end of her term next year, saying it’s time to move on after 38 years in elected office. “It's been such a delight and a high honor to serve our community for so many years and help constituents every day of the week,” the Miami Republican told the Miami Herald in an exclusive telephone interview Sunday. “We just said, ‘It's time to take a new step.’”

No big loss. Her husband would have made a GREAT congressman. She ,however, has lost her way personally and professionally.
Good riddance
The district is friendlier to Republicans downballot. Willard had a closer margin in ‘12. For those reasons, I expect the Republicans to still contest it (and it would be stupid not to).
One less Cheap Labor Express Republican.
Former Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez Cantera is talked about as a contender. I’m not really familiar with him, though.
He’s still the Lt. Governor. He’d be a top tier nominee for the seat. The Dems don’t have a first tier candidate (as of yet).

Hard to imagine it won’t be rat target #1.
But don’t give it up just yet, A popular local Republican (and it’s hard to imagine whoever it won’t be to the right of I R-L) can run far ahead of Trump’s abysmal performance in the district.
