German economy booms as protectionist threat goes pop

When port manager Axel Mattern looks out onto the Elbe River from his office in Hamburg's historic warehouse district, he can literally count the rising number of container ships leaving Germany's biggest harbour.

There is an export boom underway, the ships tell him. China, in particular, is "buzzing", Mattern says.

The sharp increase in demand for "Made in Germany" goods from around the world is pushing Europe's largest economy into overdrive -- and, not coincidently, helping dispel worries about rising protectionism under U.S. President Donald Trump.

Some German companies are even considering expanding into the United States, while others reckon the world is big enough for them to thrive even if American trade borders do get tricky.

Germany has a record trade surplus, record low unemployment, high consumption, balanced federal budget... and for years now. So what's your major malfunction about, dude?

Never incidentally picked up the simple skill to Google?

Q.e.d.

Yep. We in southern Germany found it quite funny when president Trump spoke about import tax to save American products from foreign competition. Fact is that there are many things America can not produce anymore since it simply lacks the potential. Most of the factories you need now are liquidated and transacted. The knowlege of the workers is gone or sold to somewhere else. This can not be replaced fast, since such is a process that will take many years if it ever will happen. Same thing in the UK btw.. Maggie Thatcher deidustrialised the country completely and turned everything into its banking sector. After the brexit the banks will come to Frankfurt and the Brits are forced to accustom themselves to a frugal life. They will live their own Morgentau-plan from nowon. ;)

“. Fact is that there are many things America can not produce anymore since it simply lacks the potential.”

You think so, do you?

Yep. I do. Fact is the US were economically and intellectually impressive. But not anymore. We do not buy your goods (except of Iphones and Tesla-Cars) anymore not because of high prices but because they are simply outdated. Try to sell a Cadillac in Europe. It is not funny since this will cause big problems in the future. Anyway, the rethoric of your president isn’t very impressive. It is somehow awkward since it has nothing to do with reality.

Enjoy your Merkel and your future as an Islamic hellhole.

Mohammedans? Some of them are indeed a pain in the ass. Most of them are decent people. Mainly Turks who work hard and gained some wealth in the past 40 years. They are absolutely no problem.

When I visited your country I felt much more insecure than here in Europe. Therefore (of course there are other reasons too) I do not want to change my islamic hellhole with a home somewhere in the US.
