Ivanka Trump’s uncomfortable embrace of refugees
washingtontimes.com ^ | 4/27/17 | Cheryl K. Chumley

Ivanka Trump, already under growing fire from some in the conservative camps who think she’s exerting too much influence over dad Donald, is now calling for the White House to open doors to Syrian refugees.

Conservatives and border control advocates are quite right to be concerned.

Ivanka’s soft stance on refugees would seem a direct conflict with President Donald Trump’s campaign promises to crack down on borders — and particularly, on the entrance of refugees from terror-tied nations who could prove a national security danger to American citizens.

I am stuned that Ivanka is so gullible and clueless as to how ruthless and brazen and predatory these “refugees” are toward women. Does she not see the international news? Is she unaware of happenings in Germany and Scandinavia?

I have not heard a single good idea come from this woman.

Not one.

Hey Ivanka,

Here is an idea. How about you, Jared and the kids buying one-way Amtrak tickets back to NYC.

Doughty One, you're an old freeper friend and I don't want to get into a boxing match with you. I've been here 19 years, and when I post my case or comment on a thread I seldom go back and forth with a brickbat-thrower more than once or twice.

However, you seem to be fixated in showing I'm being negative on the Kushners, therefore you use that to conjure up that I'm negative on the President..... and then you post incessantly on "Trump 101" like I need to be informed and re-informed on what he's doing for our country.

Further, I don't need scoldings from you that I'm "obsessing" over the bad publicity Ivanka is bringing on her father. I made my case on the subject and I'm happy to see how many freepers on two different thread agree with my un-complicated premise.

More than a few people here and abroad, like it or not, or believe it or not, think Ivanka is speaking for her father on matters of abortion, funding Planned Parenthood, opening the door on Syrians, and other liberal causes of hers. And I think it hurts him ! And I don't like it! And I made my misgivings known on this forum!

Furthermore, I deeply resent you turning a common phrase I used in my post into something DIRTY on my part...i.e., the phrase "menage a troix", French for a "household of three people". There are three relatives living in the White House household.

If you care to read something into those words by telling me that I'm "crass" "by using THAT term", and "couldn't I have thought BETTER on that?", and implying I was "over the line".... you can be my guest. You are using the insinuating and personal-smearing tactics of the Left, and you should apologize for your zoning in on something I never even gave a thought to.

I stand by my critique of the Kushners' appointments to the President's high level security council...and I'll let ensuing months prove me right or wrong in my honest assessment of this issue that's hitting the headlines and the talk shows.

Leni

I have heard the term “ménage à trois” since my teens. Granted that’s only fifty years. I have never seen it used to describe three people living in a home.

When I looked it up, the initial description was a sexual situation involving three people. There was a second meaning that referenced a married couple having engaged in sex with a third person.

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/menage-a-trois

Sure enought, the original meaning was that of three people living in a home. Is that what it is used for today?

In order to see which was the predominant meaning these days, I chose to look up the synonyms.

http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/m%C3%A9nage%20%C3%A0%20trois

You will note that they are almost all sex related. I see nothing remotely referencing three people living in a home.

The meaning has been commonly understood to mean a threesome. I would not have used that word. It’s insulting.

If you were living with two other people, I would never reference it as a “ménage à trois”, I don’t care what the original meaning was.

I would not take a chance on anyone thinking I was suggesting something else.

Why are these articles coming out about Ivanka and Jared?

The media is putting them out there to tweak Conservatives. Hey, it’s certainly working. We now have our team trying to do the Left’s dirty work for them. I object to this. That is why I have addressed it.

This forum has now become overrun by people who have made it their duty to save the nation from the Kushners. Evidently you haven’t noticed, but now this is also bleeding over on the president as folks feel emboldened to be more aggressive due to the open season on the Kushners.

Where we should be asking folks to take a deep breath and get themselves back under control, we instead have folks coming in to egg it on. And these are people who should know better. They should be urging patience so that the Kushners actually do something before being attacked like this.

Now because I disagree regarding this, I’m now referenced as a “brick-bat” thrower. Well, thanks...

I’ve been here a while myself. I am impressed by your credentials, life experience. You have certainly been places I haven’t and participated in things I haven’t. I do respect that. I still like to think I CAN have an opinion and express it. Perhaps that’s flawed thinking on my part.

I’m not sure how else to explain that we have nothing to fear from the Kushners, than to talk about what Trump has done that I am told is expressly against their beliefs.

Yes, you’re right. You should know this. I shouldn’t have to do a “Trump 101” presentation. And yet here we are, Trump doing good things and folks still advocating his appointees must be jettisoned because they said so.

I don’t care if every other FReeper agrees with you on this. I’m not here to run a popularity contest. I’m here to advocate for the president and his team. Until they have been shown to have done something against his will, do something illegal, or do start convincing him to go Leftist on us, I’m going to ignore the peanut gallery, except to say, enough already. Trump is president. We are not. He has people he trusts. That’s good enough for me at this point.

Who is under the impression that the Kushners are bringing down the wrath of the Left on Trump? And as for the wrath of the Right, that is just plain uncalled for.

I did not turn that phrase into anything. It’s out there. Sorry, but it isn’t complimentary in any way shape or form in today’s popular context.

My pointing that out is now considered to be using the Left’s tactics. Leni, you don’t think I should mention this to you, because you meant nothing bad by it?

You want me to just be silent while you use it over and over?

Some folks would appreciate the mention. I would.

I’m not here to diminish Leni’s standing at all.

I disagree on these points, and I have explained why.

People disagree with me all the time.

I don’t consider them to be evil, every time they do. I don’t consider them to be trying to diminish me every time.

We go off to other threads and discuss other issue where we agree.

If we are going to support Trump, then lets do it. Trashing his family and staff is not supporting the man.

He wanted people he could trust in these positions, and he chose family to appoint to them.

I trust the man. I’ll go with his decision.

Most of us TRUMP lovers find none, to maybe two errors that this magnificent man, patriot, and president has made.

Flynn was an accidental (and “incidental”) error. The second is Ivanka and Jarret Kirchner on the payroll, comfortably ensconced down the hall with Daddy in the Oval Office. The optics are pretty awful, on their face. Imagine if chunky Chelsea *Award* Clinton were brought in, to run through the halls of a Clinton White House? At least Chelsea was/is a parrot for Mommy’s every word on every issue.

My only objection is that neither Kirchner is a very good parrot for Donald Trump. Neither on social isses, nor politically, have either Ivanka or Jarret uttered anything that lines up with the side of the issues on which President Trump won.

Who needs this? Womens issues have proved to be one of the most divisive of all. Ivanka and Company seem to whine endlessly about long resolved problems and fail completely to address the scourge of abortion on women, particularly black women, or the one-child policy booming for years in China!

I get your concerns. But Trump is different, and has by now earned the latitude to be considered different.

This is a man who fired his own brother for non-performance. Kushner knows a lot of stuff Steve Bannon doesn’t, and Steve would be the first to tell you that. Ivanka brings a very much needed softer side to the White House, as it is clear Melania will do her First Lady duties, but really doesn’t relish the role of being “out there.”

I am not worried. In coming up on two years now since I first started closely following Trump and analyzing his behavior, I am 100% confident that he has THE best political instincts of anyone I’ve ever seen, including RR. And I do not think he ever is overly swayed by anyone, not Bannon, not Kushner, not Ivanka.

On the other hand, I still think a great many people don’t understand his negotiation strategy, that to get x, he appears to want Z, then settles for Y.
