A large explosion has hit an area near Damascus International Airport, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says.
"The blast was huge and could be heard in Damascus," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the UK based monitoring group.
The airport lies about 25km (15 miles) south-east of Syria's capital.
The blast was reportedly followed by a large fire. There is no word on casualties. The cause is unclear......

Dershowitz suffers from cognitive dissonance. Anyone who follows his opinions at any given time will soon find himself walking in tighter and tighter circles and getting absolutely nowhere.
There’s a website called Newsbud and also Alex Jones put out a video in the last 24 hours hitting hard at the notion of a Saudi invasion force of 150-thousand about to pour into southern Syria.
Is this attack part of the softening up for that?
Jones called General McMaster “the Saudi national security advisor”.
All I know is the Sauds killed 3000 Americans and it didn’t cost them a soldier or a dollar afterwords.
Yes, and now we are helping them [the Saudis] in their inept attempt to take over the Middle East. It is a shameful project which will end in failure.
I went to that Dekba site from Israel and they just put out a story claiming a Syrian-Iranian-Hezbollah offensive towards Mt. Hermon on the north side of Golan was launched early this morning.
Looks like they’re justifying the attack at the airport.
They also say the Israeli Defense Minister warned the Russians about Iranian-Hezbollah activities in Syria.
Good.
Like I said,, there are NO good players in the Middle East arab world, perhaps with the exception of Al Sisi.
Seal the borders, keep improving missile defenses, secure the borders, take out any labs or reactors if it is needed.
The previous White House created ISIS, and supported it militarily.
One example: in 2016 Obama used US warplanes to strafe Syrian army positions at a critical location defending Deir Ezzor. This attack was timed to support an ISIS ground attack which collapsed the Deir Ezzor perimeter.
US forces bombed the last power station providing electricity to Deir Ezzor. It seems the US also tried to syphon off ISIS fighters from Mosul to assist in the seige of Deir Ezzor.
Obama deliberately terrorised and destabilised Syria in an attempt to control future pipeline deployment across the country. Spitting Syria along the Deir Ezzor corridor is one way of achieving this.
The Russians were the first to effectively attack ISIS and to push back on the previous White Houses’ insane ambitions in the region.
Hope this proves helpful.
I never ceased to be amazed, every time I visit this site, how many people here support those who are arming the foes of Israel, and damning Israel for defending itself against them.
Israel, the one moderate state in all of the Middle East.
And we have a site that’s instead supporting Syria, Iran and Hezbollah. Freaking Hezbollah being supported here. What happened to this site? I used to visit all the time, but nowadays I hardly recognize it. Back in the Bush days and before, it was the liberals that were supporting Syria, Iran and Hezbollah.
That was the conservative movement I knew. I don’t recognize this one that seems to have sided with the most powerful anti-American forces in the Middle East.
You can oppose al-Qaeda without being a freaking Hezbollah supporter.
Obama’s not that smart, to get them to kill each other while the US clears Mosul.
In reality the anti-ISIS forces blocked off the escape from Mosul early in the process, which they never should have done, by taking the area west of Tal Afar. They should have left it “open”, but bombed the hell out of anything that tried to flee through it. Now instead they’ve been having to try to plow through ISIS fighters in dense urban settings.
And seriously, again - “.. destabilized Syria in an attempt to control future pipeline deployment across the country.”? Substitute the word “Afghanistan” for “Syria” and that exact same thing was written by a million different liberals back when Bush was president. What the heck happened that __we’re__ now the “No War For Oil” people?
Strikes near Damascus in line with Israel policy to stop Iran arms transfers Israeli minister
“...You can oppose al-Queda without being a freaking Hezbollah supporter.”
************************************************
You mean like Turkey? No, I guess that can’t be right.... Islamist Turkey’s allied with the al-Queda forces in Syria and has taken them under its wing.
Seems like the Jew haters come out on schedule. Easy to spot.
Your hatred of Israel is quite obvious.
That’s not very nice to say.
It was a big supporter of Israel, Glenn Beck, who said a few years ago “I am a supporter of Israel, but not the people who support Israel.”
I believe in Israel, but that doesn’t oblige me to believe in the Israel Lobby or Israeli politicians and their policies.
The end game in this situation called the Arab Spring once Iran is vanquished is the expulsion of Jews from their home to accommodate the “two state solution” as in the creation of a Palestinian state.
That’s what this supporter of all of Israel sees coming down the road as this policy plays out of working with the Saudis.
All those weapons are going to be used by one side or the other for God only knows what purpose. I don’t trust either side with them.
Better that they are eliminated than anyone gets to use them.
And of course, we know the Russians are supporting terrorists in the Taliban.
I thought that was the U.S. Hard to tell the players from those being played anymore.

“The cause is unclear......”
Yup, I’m stumped also. Can’t figure out why there would be an explosion in Syria.
“Jews in Judaea and Samaria will end up being forced out of their homes if all this plays out and is successful in regards to Assad, Syria and Iran.”
Not happening. Israel will never allow itself to be cut in half. If anything, taking out Syria enables the world body to break Syria in half with the western piece going to the Palis and the eastern part to the Kurds. Or something along those lines.
The only thing Israel might give up as a country would be Gaza.
You are over stating your case. The enemy of my enemy was my enemy yesterday and will be tomorrow. For today our interests align. What to do? Wait until tomorrow.
