“That to me is troublesome to give that extraordinary power, which, essentially, is unlimited power, at least in most cases, to the government,” Roberts added....

That would be like in sports where there is a review process of a critical play. The point is to get the correct call.

If the government can give citizenship to a person it should also be able to take it away from that person if a mistake was made.

Roberts’ dossier handlers rang his chime. It’s like watching a puppet show.

“U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts took issue on Wednesday with the Trump administration’s stance in an immigration case, saying it could make it too easy for the government to strip people of citizenship for lying about minor infractions.”

I hope Gorsuch doesn’t turn out to be as gutless as Roberts.

You mean like the extraordinary power to force Americans to buy a product or service they may not want? Roberts you son of a bitch.

This Roberts tool seems to exercise his hated “absolute power” quite often. Ironic...no?

I do not know what it is, nor do I care really. But the Left has something on Roberts, just as Hillary Clinton has something on the Right.

Now Roberts needs to recuse himself from anything related to immigration enforcement.

Why don’t these people want to resolve these things peacefully?

Would Roberts like this lying war criminal and his wife to live next door? He obviously lied and she was convicted of it. Good riddance to them and anyone else that lies to get here. Especially lies about war crimes and violence. Zero tolerance. And, yes, maybe they should rightfully fear retribution from their surviving neighbors. Eventually they should face justice and what better way than at the hands of their victims kin?

“for trivial lies or omissions”

Covering for a potential internationally wanted war criminal is “trivial”?

I think John Demjanjuk was stripped of his US citizenship on the claim that he had lied about what he had done in WWII. I don’t know if he actually did lie—apparently the key evidence against him was a document which may have been forged by the KGB.

There’s a fair argument on the other side for a “bright line” rule; ie: that no falsehood should be tolerated in granting the extraordinary privilege of citizenship. Otherwise, we become embroiled in endless shaded arguments about what lies “matter” and we inherently accept that some lying is OK. Not a good posture.

Another argument can be made that someone willing to tell any lie to gain American citizenship has demonstrated a fundamental disregard for the rule of law and for the integrity of the legal process in becoming a citizen.

What if someone became president having misrepresented his citizenship?

The Court is using Trump’s seeming weakness and unpopularity to reassert its supposed superiority. They had NO guts to take on Obama’s breathtaking extensions of Presidential power and overreach.

“U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts took issue on Wednesday with the Trump administration’s stance in an immigration case.”
___________________________________________
Obviously Trump has taken the “stance” that if an immigrant applies to come into the country, they must reveal all questionable activity. Among these would be terrorist ties, past terrorist activities, membership in organizations opposed to the US, commitment to ideologies that are opposed to the US Constitution (Shariah Law), which they would lie about and swear to uphold if naturalized, and any past criminal activity.

Roberts is taking issue with removing citizenship from those who lied in order to gain entry to the US.

It's called VETTING.

What will he take issue with, when addressing the issue of people who enter illegally, having a child within our borders, and demanding that they have a right to stay, because they are related to the child born here?

When the courts twisted the 14th Amendment to allow birthright citizenship, they opened a can of worms that no one has the guts to slam shut.

Without enforced borders and the ability to define what the word “citizenship”, means, there eventually will be no country. Of course that is the aim of the socialist left.

The previous Muslim adminstration (er, Obama administration) DID reject her AND her family BECAUSE she feared Muslim retaliation if back in Bosnia BY the Muslims.

She is a “true” refugee fleeing “true” persecution, which is why the Obama administration forced her resettlement into the Muslim death camps.

What if someone became president having misrepresented his citizenship?

Don't worry...that could never happen...the grueling primary process would weed out anyone like that.
