Cinco de Mayo is not a Mexican holiday. It’s pure fiction brought to you by La Raza and your local beer distributor.

This.

It’s a state holiday in Puebla that barely gets any attention from native Mexicans.

It only got pushed by Mexican-Americans who wanted their own St.Paddy’s Day “LOOK AT ME! I’M SPECIAL!” type cultural holidays.

El Cinco de Mayo is a Western Hemisphere holiday. It marks the day the Mexicans defeated an invading French army.

At the time (5 May 1862), the Gringos were preoccupied with another war and were thus not available to enforce the Monroe Doctrine.

We should be thankful the Mexicans did a job Americans wouldn't do.

La Rama had nothing to do with Cinco de Mayo.

It WAS created by the Gambrinas Importing Company in Texas. Gambrinas was, at the time, owned by a Jewish family in Texas whose roots in Texas date back before the Texas Revolution.
