BREAKING: California Judge Blocks Trump Order Withholding Funding for ‘Sanctuary Cities’

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A federal judge in San Francisco has blocked a Trump administration order to withhold funding from communities that limit cooperation with U.S. immigration authorities.

U.S. District Judge William Orrick issued the temporary ruling Tuesday in a lawsuit over the executive order targeting so-called sanctuary cities. The decision will stay in place while the lawsuit moves through court.

The Republican president’s administration and two California governments that sued over the order disagreed about its scope.

San Francisco and Santa Clara County argued that it threatened billions of dollars in federal funding.

But an attorney for the Justice Department, Chad Readler, said at a recent court hearing that it applied to a limited set of grants.

Readler said less than $1 million was at stake nationally and possibly no San Francisco funding.

“No fear of impeachment when there should be.”

As I understand it, with the exception of the SCOTUS, which is in the Constitution, the rest of the judiciary can be removed by the Congress. But don’t look for the Repubicans to do anything because they’re too busy trying as best they can to bring down “their” president.

We are finished as the once great country. I see the rule of law does not apply to judges who just disregard it.

Law is an expression of, and springs from, culture. It must arise from commonly accepted principals and morality. Law is not a massive, top-down software program used to control society, as many people seem to think.

Its the same reason you can not "nation build" in the Mid-East. Thus, as our culture is changed and degraded, thus laws we once had become meaningless.

If the Trump admin obeys this order then he may as well not run for a second term and his first term is effectively over. I for one won’t be supporting Trump if he just acts like everyone else.

Oh nooo,
Sandra Day O’Conner says it is wrong to criticize the judiciary.
Many in the judiciary need tar and feathering.

They would never do that. The government is dead. It no longer works.

“Can’t Congress defund that particular court?”

They can close it any time they decide to.

I know Clinton was seeking to load the circuit courts with Leftists. I didn’t know the Executive Branch selected state judges as nominees.

Wasn’t this judge a county judge? I can’t switch back and check that out, but will do that. Thanks very much for the correction.

The president is going about this the wrong way.

Here is the law that needs to be enforced.

https://www.justice.gov/usam/criminal-resource-manual-1907-title-8-usc-1324a-offenses

Instead of denying federal money for local law enforcement, the president should be sending ICE agents and FBI SWAT teams to ARREST Mayors, Governors, Selectmen, Legislators, and JUDGES for any violations whatsoever to the above federal statute or any impediments whatsoever to the execution of same.

Cities can break laws as they wish.

Now certified judicially certified as it’s legal to be illegal.

Got it.

Stop being a party hack. Republicans are just as bad as Democrats. Do you see anyone of them complaining or doing anything about this gross over reach? They have the power but they are doing nothing. Party politics is crap so stop playing. The Republicans could have 70 senate seats and nothing would change. Get your mind in gear

“an attorney for the Justice Department, Chad Readler, said at a recent court hearing that it applied to a limited set of grants.”

The Justice Department is thinking in terms too small. A few million dollars doesn’t mean anything to places like Los Angeles. If Trump wants to get their attention, it will take a lot more funding withheld than “a limited number of grants.”

Someone quick, tell Congress to all go home, they’re fired. The judicial system has appropriated and taken over the power of the purse right out from under them. I’m heading for the courthouse right now to stake a claim in this new court financing power.
