Happened last August. Video just released.
Husband says he was not allowed to ride in ambulance with his wife, then directed to wrong hospital. The 73 year-old librarian died in the ambulance according to WINK.
Lee Coel, 28, was arrested Wednesday, accused of felony manslaughter.
Punta Gorda Police Chief Tom Lewis was charged with culpable negligence, a misdemeanor, but was not arrested. Lewis received a summons to appear in court.
For manslaughter, Coel could be sentenced to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The chief could face 60 days in jail.

Very sad. There is no need to use real firearms in this exercise.
I read a story earlier that they hadn’t.
Sad but needs to happen...
None of the city employees will face any serious consequences. Cops almost never face consequences for killing a bystander
Now the cop can sue the city for emotionally damages.
I was a cop for 5 years in the 70’s. Qualification time was always a slice. And that was before Blocks. Lord hear our prayers.

Glocks.
That’s one less thuggish Retired Librarian on the streets.
We can all now talk in the library a little louder.
She won’t be shushing any one again at the library!
A blank will kill you.
Spot on. As a formerly active USPSA competitor most of the cops that I saw at matches were of marginal abilities. Of course there were others who actively trained and competed and had stellar capabilities. But that proficiency was gained through their own initiative, not department training.
No way. The case is working its way through the judicial process =>

Nevah Happen, G.I.
Never does.
Correct. Blanks are NOT harmless, esp. at close range.
Nobody says “it was just an accident” anymore...
I would not be surprised if he did. I hope that he doesn’t, but it would not surprise me if he did.
Check upthread.
Heartbreaking for the husband to witness this. "Instructor" appears to break many rules here: live ammo, pointing weapon, etc. Very sad.
