I thought Cleopatra was Egyptian??? They are brown or olive skinned, aren’t they???
It is hard to say what the Egyptians looked like. They were certainly not Negroes tho. We do know that Ramses the Great had red wavy hair.
Cleopatra was a direct descendant of Ptolemy who was one of Alexander the great’s generals. He was Macedonian and spoke Greek. Her ancestry is well known but she had one Grandparent who is unknown. The odds of her being Black must be no more than one in a million.
“I thought Cleopatra was Egyptian??? They are brown or olive skinned, arent they???”
Cleo was 100% Macedonian, descended from one of Alexander’s generals. The Macedonian element in Alexandria didn’t even intermarry with Greeks, let alone anyone else, until Julius Caesar’s time.
Cleopatra was pure Macedonian Greek!
She was the last of the Ptolemy dynasty. The dynasty founded by one of Alexander the Great’s generals.
Cleopatra was actually Greek.
Cleopatra was Greek. Actually, Macedonian. After Alexander the Great conquered Egypt, the upper class of Egypt was European.
Even before that, if you look at the statue of Nefertiti, the ancient Egyptians were white, or at least no darker than other Middle Eastern people. Most likely, the ancient Egyptians who settled in the Nile valley were agriculturalists who migrated down from the Mesopotamian/Levant region to take over the fertile Nile region.
***I thought Cleopatra was Egyptian?**
Ancestor was Ptolemy, a Greek General of Alexander’s. When Alexander died Ptolemy became ruler of Egypt. Cleopatra’s linage is well known. Now certain people have hijacked her claiming she was black. She was not.
