Trailer movement seen at N. Korea's nuke test site: satellite photo

SEOUL, April 22 (Yonhap) -- Some movement of what appear to be trailers have been detected at North Korea's nuclear test site in its northeastern mountainous area, a U.S. research monitoring website said Saturday.

Commercial satellite imagery taken on April 19 showed signs of a few mining carts along the tracks leading to the spoil pile and a small equipment trailer near the North Portal, the tunnel that Pyongyang has apparently been preparing for a nuclear test in the Punggye-ri region, according to the 38 North website.

The analysts from the monitoring site said a net canopy, which is presumed to have been placed to conceal the equipment, remains intact, while the pumping of water out of the tunnel, which is necessary to keep the environmental surroundings at an optimal level for carrying out a test, seems to have stopped.

The website commented that while it's not clear whether the noted activity is "a tactical pause" before another nuclear test, the imagery continues to indicate the test site "appears able to conduct a sixth nuclear test at any time once the order is received from Pyongyang."

Referring to its latest satellite image taken on April 16, which captured some North Korean workers playing volleyball at the site, it said while no such games were observed this time, the outline of the court in the courtyard was still visible.

It also mentioned that there were signs of several unidentified objects and activities in the area, although there was not enough resolution in the images to determine what they were.

"Some may be supplies or equipment with tarps or netting draped over them," it said.

No significant activity was detected at the West Portal and South Portal, or at the Command Center Area, it added.

It is not military but politicians who call the shots. NK was exploiting general negative political atmosphere about Vietnam War, sensing that U.S. would not dare to launch another war. The catch phrase at the time is “disengagement.” They had no nukes back then. Imagine they were about to have some nukes which can threaten U.S. while shooting at U.S. ships. Things would have been different.

I dont think any of us know what’s going to happen..but IMO China, Russia are on the borders to restrain any large refugee movement...(after all they have millions just in their camps alone)...it’s important to contain the population for obvious reasons....and I believe we’re seeing a united effort in that respect.

However...China certainly wants their people as Kims replacement and Russia would certainly support China doing that. ...Russia being that close assures China that any deal struck between XI and Trump and the S. Koreans for removing Kim would mean China gets to say who replaces him.

Why should we wait until the blow up Guam before we use our best weapons? We need to get over the taboo regarding the use of nuclear weapons. We used them against Japan and they did exactly what we needed them to do. We completely destroyed Japan’s will to fight, and the result has been more than 70 years of peace between our countries. That’s what happens when your country is strong and isn’t ashamed of winning a war.

I have no qualms using nukes. I’d have taken out several cities after 911.

Those B2’s weren’t dropping MOAB’s. They’re great bombers but I don’t believe that they can deliver a MOAB.

I wonder if our satellites can track the location of Kim Jong-un? I mean, can they get his location within a one mile radius?

Just thinking . . .

Are you calling Kim Jong Un trailer trash?

I’m okay with it if you are and there’s nothing wrong with living in a single wide. Where a person lives isn’t what makes them trash.
