We helped Mexico with building their wall on the Guatemala border.
Can’t have those central Americans buying a ticket on top of La Bestia without also paying the Mexicans for safe passage to the US border.
They don’t seem to understand that it won’t be as simple as returning to their safe space as minority party.
If they don’t support President Trump they go the way of the whigs.

My guess is that there will some wall - the question is how much? It is too easy to build a a few miles in a high profile area.
The Plan which has been released lays out three phases, starting in the urban areas that straddle the border, like San Diego, El Paso, Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley (McAllen and Brownsville) - but “Phase Three” is the bulk of the rural stretches.
My guess is that they will build bigger and better barriers in the cities, but enthusiasm and funding will likely peter out after a couple of years, before the rural areas are done (but they will have more sensors and Border Patrol).
Illegal immigration is already plummeting. As other policies start to bite (like cutting off benefits and expediting deportations), the problem could well fade from people’s priorities. Other problems will no do doubt crop up and steal the spotlight.
Enough wall to extract loud howls of pain from the left, will likely answer the mail on keeping the campaign promise.

I predict just the opposite. The wall has become symbolic of the need to stop the evils of globalisation at the border. Everytime there is a terrorist attack or an illegal immigrant crime or a drug problem, the calls for a border wall will be renewed. Also the wall will likely become a major tourist hotspot so the resistance from some border towns will likely fade.

It is certainly possible that enthusiasm for the wall building project will increase over time.
The speed of construction could (should) increase after the difficult and expensive urban portions are finished, and as the contractors get better and bigger. It could become an exciting race to drive the final golden spike completing the great effort.
As Ronald Reagan pointed out, the closest thing we have to eternal life are Government programs.
Once the contractors are raking in the money, they will do their best to insure that it keeps up.
The excellent contract vehicle that is being set up for wall building, will give the Government a lot of flexibility to scale up the effort, if they are funded to do so.
I am personally actually thinking seriously about making a trip to view the construction, so tourism might not be totally unrealistic.
After the urban areas are walled off though, the marginal effectiveness of another mile of wall starts to drop significantly, as does the media coverage. Out of sight, out of mind. New concerns tend to come along - what voters consider the most important issues tend to change every election. Democrats may become more desperate to stop it, offering more enticing bargains.
Time will tell. We already know for certain that Trump is making a dramatic impact on new illegal immigration rates.
And if the Republican party won't step up and actually govern the way voters have been begging for decades, the entire country will go the way of the whigs.
The Democrats don't care about governing, but only about absolute power.
The Republicans who should be governing won't, because the Democrats bully them every time they try, and they have developed a Stockholm syndrome. They don't see that the strength of the American people is behind them.
Other than the Democrats and Republicans, who else is there? We don't have droves of pragmatists like Trump to elect into every office.
I'm sure the Democrats are saying, "Go ahead. You own it now."
That's what I said from day 1 it astounds me there are still some who refuse to accept this reality. I didn't vote for him because I believed in some campaign balderdash. I voted for him to stop the beast which he did so I'm happy.
If the wall ends up getting built great I'll be the first to admit I was wrong and he a happy passenger on the Trump Train. And I'm talking about a real wall, like the one around Israel now not some glorified barbed wire fence like some are already conceding to maintain their Trump fantasy. We already have flimsy fence at most of the border already. We don't need more of that.
As you can see though there are still plenty clinging to fantasy (because that's what they voted for, a fantasy rather than reality). He will (and can and already has) deported thousands because he can as president (the chief executive). And I certainly applaud him for that.
But he can't swoop in and order a "big beautiful wall" built like he clearly implied during the campaign. And now reality is running smack into that campaign fantasy, and because you dare point this out you are on the receiving end of those who are frustrated their fantasy isn't real.
The MSMS will make sure it looks like Trump’s fault. They are good at it.
If the wall isn’t almost built by the 2020 election it will be a bloodbath for republicans.

Funding is a problem? I thought Trump told us Mexico was paying for the wall. If so, the bulldozers should already be at work.
The Democrats are against a wall. Moderate Republicans, including the leadership don’t want the wall. The federal bureaucracy doesn’t want a wall. At least 1/3 of the federal judges who will be hearing the thousands of anti-wall cases are against the wall and will rule against it no matter what the Constitution and federal law says. Politically, even the people of border states Texas and Arizona are split on the wall plus California and New Mexico are anti wall.
The wall doesn’t address people entering the country on visas and overstaying. It also doesn’t address the millions of refugees who will not assimilate and are being brought into the country by the federal government and the allied government funded non-profits. Unless these two sources of inflow are stopped, whatever amount of wall is built will only be a monument to the cultural and economic decline of the nation.
If the wall is not funded by Congress in the current year, it will never be funded. Ryan, McConnell, and the moderates who dominate the GOP will not the wall to be a major issue in a mid-term election year. If the wall isn’t funded in 2017, and the GOP loses either house of Congress in the 2018 elections, the wall will not be funded in Trump’s presidency or ever. Demographic trends are not in favor of the wall. By 2020 there will not be enough support for the wall in the electorate and if Trump doesn’t run for, and win, reelection
there will be no leadership support for the wall in the GOP.
I predict no wall would mean the end of the GOP.
