Exactly.
Any federal insurance plan can be corrupted by the next by next socialist/democrat that comes along in the future. And there will be one.

I want to see movement in the right direction. I don’t think there is an aspirin fix. Amending Obamacare may be the only logical start though a full waiver EO or provision is also in order. Let O’care die through its own unwieldiness.

The point should be, this is not one-and-done. This is the start of a new evolution in the free direction.

I agree that there is no magic bullet fix for this mess. Full repeal is not going to happen, unfortunately, but if we can get states to opt-out of the major provisions of Obamacare, the entire structure of Obamacare collapses.

...the Republican alternative to the Affordable Care Act

That doesn't sound like "repeal" to me. Hold on to your wallets & purses!

In other words, don’t repeal anything that would send any Poor Sucker from South Succotash crying on the Six O’clock News about how EEEEEEEVIL Republicans took his health care away from him.

Controlling health insurance is not a power granted to the federal government. It is reserved to the several states and the people.

There is no “replacing”. Rip out Obamacare by its roots. And destroy it!

The Republican Party has been given control of the House, Senate, and the White House to do just this. SO DO IT!

So, they can start with two things:
1. intestate insurance sales.
2. Tort reform.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

nobody is talking about these basics

It’s still rearrange and repair.

Repeal:1.revoke or annul (a law or congressional act):

So, they had a deal over 50 times during the obama administration. The situation has flipped to favor the GOP and now, all of a sudden, they need a deal? BS! They need to shut the hell up and pass the exact thing they’ve already voted for over 50 times. This is utter nonsense. They are nothing more than a bunch of filthy, rotten traitorous wretches. Piss on the GOP.

Outright ban of the requirement would be so unpopular which is why Trump said he would keep it many times in interviews.

That is what politicians do. They stick their finger in the air and see what way the wind blows. Often it is the middle finger.

My take is people that want preexisting conditions covered, but there is only a very small minority that is currently paying full fare for this coverage. How many people with employer sponsored plans would pay would be willing to pay additional money to make those plans portable? I suspect not very many if it was optional.

Recall how many times it was posted here during the election that Trump was NOT a politician, (to explain different statements from him)

Repubs are very BRAVE when they are not in charge. They can rattle sabers and gain re-election for nothing more than sounding tough. But, put them in power and watch them fold when it counts.Sad, really.....

Of course not. But now Obamacare has convinced many that health care is a right. Trump sees this.

And many many people will fly UA over other carriers for a few $$$ less even if their ticket means little and they may be dragged off the A/C to make room for late arriving flight crew, and then miss their appointments, meetings, etc.

Fortunately they have not driven SouthWest out of business. Fly SouthWest if you really have to be somewhere, leave UA for those on SS or disability in no hurry.

Slightly off topic but related.

Anyone else read the PHIT bill (HR 1267)?

Anyone willing to take a whack at the legal definition of “activity program” as used in part 3?

God bless you! Congress should never be able to exempt themselves from any law they see fit to inflict upon US.

Trumps views on health coverage were fairly well known. His backing the Ryan plan wasn't a big surprise for me. Even though Trump wasn't a career politician, he likely had to deal with them on a constant basis to get his deals through. It didn't take him long to morph into one.
