North Korea shows off new missiles in huge military parade, but doesn’t test nuke

TOKYO — North Korea put on a huge military spectacle Saturday to celebrate its founder’s birthday, parading its series of new and technologically advanced missiles in front of Kim Jong Un, and in a defiant show of force in front of the world.

North Korea did not, however, carry out another nuclear test or ballistic missile launch, against widespread speculation that it would seek to celebrate Kim Il Sung’s 105th birthday with a bang.

April 15 is the most important day in the North Korean calendar, and Kim Jong Un has celebrated his grandfather’s birthday with great fanfare as a way to boost his own legitimacy as the successor to the communist dynasty.

North Korea presented two of its newest missiles at the parade in Kim Il Sung Square on Saturday, including the submarine-launched ballistic missile it successfully fired last year and the land-based version it launched last month.

“And there were a lot of them,” said Melissa Hanham, an expert at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies in California. “The signal that they’re trying to send is that they are moving ahead with solid-fuel missiles.”

North Korea has been working on solid fuel, which means missiles are ready to fire and don’t need loading with propellant like its previous liquid-fueled missiles, as a way to fire missiles quickly and without detection by satellites.

Analysts were working to identify all the missiles that were shown off on Saturday, many of which appeared to have new paint jobs or be variants on known missiles.

“MY question is, can the nukes and missiles advance without live testing and can a nuclear test underground go undetected?...Or is that impossible?”

Keep in mind that the Norks are beyond the little atomic bombs we dropped on Japan, they’re now into the Hydrogen Bombs (i.e., city-busters). The last test kicked off a 5.2 earthquake, which is enough shake the southern half of California (I know, I experienced one). So no way to hide it for land-based testing, and probably the same for underwater. Also, no practical way to do that with conventional explosives (think 15,000 MOABs). This guy is not playing with toys - when we detect the earth shake, and given its signature, it is a real test, and a very powerful one.

technologically advanced missiles

In North Korea, that means the ones with waterproof fuses.

Very simple analysis....

The Nork missile carrier has 16 wheels

The inferior Russian missile carrier sports a puny 14 wheel transporter

Norks win by 2 wheels.

I’m not sure that is true....because earthquakes have aftershocks.

I suspect that the Chicoms basically told Fatboy; “you keep going with Trump and the US and you are on your own”. “Our interests are with them, and not you.”

150,000 Chinese troops to the Nork Border didn’t help his cause any.

Actually it would not surprise me if Trump told the Chinese, to go in there and take him out.

The problem is Lil’ Kim isn’t as smart at his grandfather or father.

Re: the holidays liberals celebrate, May Day has got to be a bigee. Though not to celebrate a dictator’s birthday.

How many of them are nothing more than big toys, like the Iranian flying boat?

There have been underground tests that have generated aftershocks, most notably Cannikin which was 5MT at a depth of 5000’. Most tests were substantially smaller and shallower, and did not.

The Norks didn't shoot one. Both the heliplots from Inchon, SK

and from nearby MDJ (Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province, China)

(...both of which which showed good signatures from prior GookShots) were quiet during the expected test period.

The big rumbles at the bottom were from a natural quake, apparently near Limon Verde, Chile

at ~8:20Z

What is it with dictatorships and large military hats?

Just think what MOABs could have done if they rained down on that “parade”.

“What is it with dictatorships and large military hats?”....

BIG HEADS. Most of them think they are more knowledgeable than others so bigger hats are needed.

If it comes to protecting trade deals with the US or protecting Fat Boy with Chinese blood the Chicoms will drop Fat Boy like a bare-handed turd.

The moment Fat Boy takes this over the line he’s dead. And not from any US or South Korean ordnance. Those old farts with the big hats have survived his old man and his grandfather and life for them has been good. They’re still breathing and they want to keep it that way.

When it came to snappy uniforms and the coolest look in military fashion nobody could beat the Krauts in WW2. They knew how to dress.
