Democrats are winning the war over the wall.
Despite President Trumps request for more than $1 billion to fund the Mexican border wall this year, GOP leaders are expected to exclude the money in the spending bill being prepared to keep the government open beyond April 28.
Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) says the choice is pragmatic and the money will come later. (Where have we heard that before)
But the issue has become a political thorn in the side of GOP leaders who are facing pushback from Republicans voicing concerns over the diplomatic fallout, the disruption to local communities and the enormous cost of the project, estimated to be anywhere from $22 billion to $40 billion. With Democrats united against new wall funding, its unlikely the Republicans have the votes to get it through and prevent a government shutdown.
Among the loudest GOP skeptics are those representing border districts. Reps. Will Hurd (R-Texas) and Martha McSally (R-Ariz.), for instance, hail from districts that span a combined 880 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border. Theyre pressing the administration to justify the huge costs.
We recognize the need for robust border security and infrastructure to ensure public safety and increase cross border commerce, the lawmakers wrote recently to top administration officials. We also have an obligation to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars.

It should not be in the Continuing Resolution. Ryan, as usual, is correctly on the side of sanity.
These people can't even spell "Progressive" correctly!
Put it into the military appropriations budget. I would call securing the border national security.
Trump can speed things along by ordering the Army to the border until such time as construction can begin.
Trump should just order the Army Corps of Engineers to build the wall and pay for it using funds for the defense department. Call it a “National Security Emergency”.
There are several people here worried about the eco part of this.
Water, birds, and such.
I am not an environmentalist so I have no clue as to whether a wall will really cause harm.
agree- people read the headlines and have seizures...i believe the gov’t fiscal year starts in October- there’s no way to get the money for the wall in the present budget...
Trump understands this which is why he’s not fuming- yet...
The ‘RATS may have been winning this fight -— but ONLY with the help of RINOs and Tuesday Group members.
You know, the Tuesday Group, nemesis of the Freedom Caucus and new best-friends-forever of a number of foolish FReepers.

Meanwhile Trump is deporting everybody and border crossing are way down. As soon as people find out they can’t come here and get free stuff the wall be irrelevant.
Four southern border states.
Make it crystal clear: either a civilian solution will happen (border wall, ICE),
-OR-
A MILITARY solution. The US-Mexico border becomes a US military patrolled DMZ with active troops pointing ALL of their weapons south across a mined no man’s land.
Presidents are able to find money in different areas of the budget.
I think the Hill headline is b/s. Nobody said there wouldn’t be some speed bumps on our way to winning, but we, not the Dems, are winning.
Lying leftist rags like the Hill are like enemy reporters in he field watching Patton fly across France and into Germany. If Patton slows down a little, they’ll say, “See, the Nazis are slowing him down. The Nazis are winning.”
Anything to demoralize the freedom fighters.
Yes, Trump can use Defense funds.
I’m not a wall person. Have always said if the laws are strictly enforced and they take away the anchor baby nonsense there will be no need for one.
Worried about the eco part of it in the same way that they are worried about solar power mirrors cooking birds mid flight or wind turbines killing eagles?
Ha!
Wait until the Infrastructure Plan rolls out.
It will look something like this:
“Here’s $500 Billion for Infrastructure, but you don’t get a nickel if you don’t allocate $10 Billion for the wall.”
